Not made for water
The Lucky Duck HD floater, Bluebill is not what I was expecting. $130 with no remote. Not happy with my purchase. I don't recommend you waste your money on this one. Buy a wind powered motion decoy. It's a nice looking decoy; oversized Bluebill floater. I thought LD intended its use for hunting divers and/or over big water. But it seems it is better suited for dry land or a bath tub. I used it to hunt Surf Scoter on a smaller bay east of the Chesapeake Bay in moderate conditions. 5-10 mph winds and 1-2 ft chop. After a new paint job I attached it to one of my long lines. I recommend you use rechargeable lithium batteries. Alkaline batteries spun the wings very slowly and they only lasted about 20 minutes. The lithium batts lasted a 5 hour hunt and there seems to be plenty of juice left. Yesterday I ran this decoy in 1-2 ft seas. It looked great in the spread, was visible to over 500 yards, and did a good job pulling birds into the spread. My issues are with the design of the motor control housing. Nothing is sealed... At the end of the hunt I had to pull the motor housing apart, rinse with fresh water, dry everything out, including the motor and batteries which had already started to corrode. The on/off switch no longer works. so, as soon as you pop the batteries in, it starts spinning. I'm very disappointed in this product. You'd think the folks at LD could at least build a waterproof/sealed motor housing for a decoy that soul purpose is to get wet. If you decided to purchase this decoy, I recommend you open the motor housing lube everything with dielectric silicone grease and try to figure out how to seal the control box. Maybe with BoatLife 5200? I don't know... Good luck
