DVG GATO Leader

Lots of pieces and kind of complicated to play. It could be simplified, and made more fun. But I like it.

I'd read some reviews of this from BoardGameGeek and about the others in the series, and decided to give it a try. The components are high quality; the directions are clear - clearer than many games - and the gameplay is challenging. I've played it a few times so far and have done poorly each time, but I'm just learning how to play proficiently at this point, so I don't expect victory any time soon. Go watch some videos from BGG about it if you're interested.All that said, I'm very happy with it and will probably buy another in the series at some point, given the quality and playability of this game.

This game has you as a commander spend points to choose a few submarines, add options like improved torpedoes or radar, and head out to sea to sink enemy ships or complete special missions. The game is simple enough to play smoothly, but has enough accuracy that you do get to decide when to be aggressive and when to wait, and there is enough detail for the player to see differences among the subs. The counters are great, each individually cut so you don't need to get out your X-acto or put up with fuzzy corners.GMT's "Beneath the Med" is simpler, quicker, allows fewer player decisions, and has less attractive components.
