Everyone's a Aliebn When Ur a Aliebn Too: A Book

I stumbled onto Jonny Sun while perusing Twitter, that weird playground of all things offbeat and meme-able. A few celebs and people I knew would retweet his stuff, and it was so quirky and yet hit that perfect note of funny, truthful, thought-provoking and sweet, all in this outsider package. For any of us who have ever felt like outsiders longing to connect to the world, his Tweets made perfect sense. This book, a sweet, strange story about Jomny the Aliebn, trying to understand what it means to be "humabn", hits on multiple levels of enjoyment with its simpleness and yet great depth and insight. The world is sad. Sometimes, everything is bad. Those are things we cannot change. But, we have each other, and we have our connections, despite how strange we may be to each other, so maybe we should just hold hands and go jump in the bouncy castle, find simple joy and moments of pure love, beauty and connection with each other. After all, we are all aliebns, and when we see another aliebn, we are a little less alone. Much like "The Little Prince" it gets into that gooey center of what it means to be human.

One of the first truly great minds of the millenial generation fully disregarding tradition and expectations as millenials do. An admittedly slow start that builds to a powerful finish. Jonathan Sun holds his work to the highest standard, no surprise to those who follow his twitter. He addresses mental illness without ever restricting it to such labels. He shines a light on the corners of the human mind we often intentionally leave out of view. Sadness, despair, hope, loss, friendship. The events by which we measure our lives, but whose emotional impact we, for the sake of appearances, are afraid to fully disclose. Eloquent and concise with a shameless disregard for spelling and syntax, Everyone's a Aliebn when Ur a Aliebn Too is not to be underestimated. Written as though a children's book in order to bring forth our childlike innocence and vulnerability, this book is everything but childish. Read it and share it with everyone you know. Everyone's takeaway will be different, but everyone will be impacted in some way. And that's the ultimate purpose of literature.

For a strangely illustrated little comic book, this goes very deep into the meaning of existence. Best read in small bits, so you can stop and think about it for a day or two, then read the next bit. It's surprisingly sweet and well written- in its own obscure language that we can understand. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone. I think it might even be fun to color. One note: If I had it to do over again, I would get the paper book and not the kindle version. The kindle was very small on my screen and my kindle app didn't work to enlarge the pictures, so if it was too small to read, I had to do a screen shot and then enlarge it in my photo album. It would be better to get the paper book. But you should get it, however you can!

I don't know where to begin. What Jomny has accomplished here is nothing short of art. It's simple, sweet, concise. It runs the range of emotions from hope to despair. It articulates complicated feelings of inadequacy and the battles we face while navigating social interaction. The story of Jomny the Aliebn isn't so alien. It's something we've all experienced in our lives. It's profoundly sad and deeply moving and exceedingly inspiring. On days where I want to feel happy, I can read this and get a few swift punches to the feels and emerge happy. If I want to reflect on things that have bothered me, I can skim through it and feel a deep sense of catharsis. What Jomny has done is shown that at our core, we're all scared little aliebns and having that in common is one of the most reassuring things I've encountered. If you're unfamiliar with Jomny's twitter account, this may be slightly offputting - but trust me. Give it a chance and you won't regret it.

There are graphic books that enchant because of the quality detailed artwork, others because they have one's favourite characters in them, and others because they are like an entertaining movie that one truly enjoys and cannot put down. However, sometimes one come across books that we love despite not having any of that, books that one loves because they are fresh and refreshing, funny and full of wisdom, all at the same time. The alien in this graphic novel is like a small child with poor literacy skills to whom the world around has never been explained except for a few generic facts, and who discovers it on its own. Its clean eye notices the idiosyncrasy and contradictions of human nature without any judgement, just puzzlement at times. Sadness, happiness, personal identity, and the fear of the unknown are some of the themes posed to the reader throughout this comic. My favourite characters are the egg that wants to be a frog (an analogy for so many existential quests) and Nothing(ness) and its God-like wisdom. The texts are naive, witty, hilarious at time, sweet and wise; the book ends with the cute alien's travel log, which contains some philosophical witty tweets to ponder about. The drawing is simple, purposely child-like. I thought that the book feeds on some premises we can find in some of the stories in Lem's The Star Diaries (Penguin Modern Classics) . The Kindle edition was not good, at least in my tablet. Images could not be zoomed in or out, and neither was the lettering. One can use double tapping for vignette individuation, but since there aren't vignettes in this comic, what one sees is the letters augmented a tiny bit. Despite that, some of the texts are very difficult to read without a magnifying glass.

I don't have Twitter but when I heard about the hype of this book, I had to see what the big deal was and who this Jonny Sun guy was. I'm so glad I did, this book is an insightful and thought-provoking piece of art that makes you contemplate and question life, society, our minds, nature, culture, and everything in-between. It helps outsiders feel accepted and as much as you feel like you're alone, you find out your not. This isn't my type of book, but it sums up life in very few words and very cute pictures. Great for those that like to contemplate life's and society's mysteries. Those that don't like to read much, this book is for you. Those that like to color, this book is for you. Those that feel alone, this book is for you. Those that like cute pictures, this book is for you. Those with insightful minds, this book is for you. Those that like to challenge your mind, this book is for you. Those that want to live life.....this book is for YOU!

I don't usually write amazon reviews, but jomny's book deserves one. It's cute, sad, happy, and profound at every turn of the page. It made me cry. There is something in here for everyone to relate to, as well as something for everyone to feel a little bit better about just being alive. It's so easy to forget how lucky we are just to experience anything. It's a great reminder that you are not alone in anything you experience, whether it's your fears, feelings, orientation, identity, or appearance. It's a great and easy read, and while a couple pages brought me to tears, it made me feel better about my life. I've been experiencing a few personal and internal struggles both with the world and with myself lately, and this book helped me. We often rush to figure ourselves and our lives out, to make everything perfect, when it often only makes you feel worse. There's only one you, and nothing lasts forever, so you need to enjoy the bouncy castle and make the friends while you're around. Jomny's book is, to put it simply, amazing.

I have been following Jonny Sun on twitter for a while and was absolutely thrilled when he announced his book. It exceeded expectations, offering a poignant tale that mixes both profound and saddening concepts with unexpected humor that literally caused me to laugh out loud. Totally quotable, it's a book I will read over and over again. As someone who has dealt with a fair share of mental struggles, it was great to see characters who expressed such emotions in ways I had never considered. Even if you've never used twitter or heard of Jonny Sun, give this book a shot for a glimpse into the incredible realm of weird twitter and all its bizarre humor and ideas. Also, if you ever get a chance to attend one of Jonny's event be advised that he gives great hugs.

Ich habe von dem Buch von Jonny Sun erfahren, nachdem ich einige der Comics auf diversen Social Media Seiten entdeckt habe, und wusste sofort, dass ich das Buch haben muss. Ich habe es in sehr kurzer Zeit fertig gelesen und meine Erwartungen wurden nicht enttäuscht. Der Stoff regt zum Nachdenken über grundsätzliche Fragen über das menschliche Leben an. Was ist Freundschaft? Was bedeutet es, zu trauern? Was macht Glück aus? Wann sind wir eigentlich "zufrieden"? Was ist Liebe? Was ist Gott? Was ist Nichts? Ich werde das Buch bestimmt noch öfter lesen und kann nur jedem empfehlen einen kleinen Blick in die Welt des kleinen Aliens zu werfen und mit ihm den Planeten Erde zu erkunden. Besonders kreative Köpfe können die Comics auch ausmalen und das Buch somit auch als Malbuch nutzen.

Amazing book, binding of the book looked a bit cheap but incredible book.

This book might seem like a simple graphic novel style book with simple art and no colour... but if you look deeper at the messages each page conveys, its really a book about finding a purpose, exploring emotions, being sad is ok, and the joy of finding new friends. This is a book for adults and children alike, and I couldn't recommend it more.

Il est difficile de décrire ce livre, si ce n'est pour dire qu'il s'agit d'un ouvrage brillant, accompagné d'illustrations tout aussi remarquables. Humoristique et chaleureux, il incite à la réflexion. Je l'ai acheté pour ma petite-fille (11 ans), mais je vais peut-être attendre avant de le lui donner. L'anglais n'étant pas sa langue maternelle, cela pourrait la dérouter.
