They have many other uses!
They aren't just for heal pain and leg length! They are for Achilles problems, actually since I have been using them for years, they will increase stamina due to the Achilles not having to stretch that extra inch. And if you don't know the Achilles is also the muscle that runs through your arch, releaving many of what is commonly known as plantar fasiitus.

Comfort re-found
I am so grateful for this heel lift. My hip replacement surgery in late December a year ago left me with a half inch leg-length deficit on my unoperated right leg. The surgeon said she believed it was not due to error in surgery but to my scoliosis. Regardless, that discrepancy was debilitating, all the more as I returned to nursing and pounding the floors for a great part of each work night. I no longer had heel pain, but increasing back pain. Though I had gotten hard little brown rubber lifts from physical therapy, they were narrow and hard--and I needed two of them stacked to create the full half inch height needed. I trialed this Orthopedic Heel Lift and went on to buy 3 more pairs so I would have that lift needed for my right leg to put in every pair of shoes, slipper, boot. They don't slide. They fill the hill part of the shoe and provide full support. I am grateful to have my physically moving life back again!

Simple Wedge Shape of Pliable Foam Rubber - Could Easily Have Been Better
There are some things to like about these heel lifts, but they could be made so much better at no additional cost. My first complaint is that they are not even the same height! I received two, and one is 1" measured at the back, but the other one is only 7/8". What kind of sloppy construction is that? Since I need them for just one leg, this is not a terrible problem, but that kind of sloppiness still should not happen. I'll probably request replacements just because the steep wedge shape reduces the actual lift so much that I don't what to give up even that missing 1/8", but that is an additional inconvenience that I should not have to deal with. My second complaint is that these are simple wedges, and fairly steep ones at that. This means that although they are advertised as 1" heel lifts, they are actually nothing close to 1" - Where your heel actually sits on the lift results in about 1/2" lift at most (probably less after the soft foam compresses). This could be easily improved by NOT cutting the lift into a simple wedge; Instead, the bottom layer should have been left full thickness for about 1.5 - 2", and THEN cut on a taper to finish the wedge shape. Since these are made out of very pliable foam, this change would not have created an uncomfortable shape, but it WOULD have created a heel lift that provided close to the advertised height. If the manufacturer is afraid that some people would not like the revised shape, then they should at least offer it as an option. The pliable foam is both good and bad. Since these are not custom molded orthotics, the foam does allow some natural molding to the shape of your foot when standing (but I do not think that is either necessary of of any great value). The down side is of course that the actual height of the lift is reduced by the compression from your body weight. On the plus side, because these large lifts are somewhat wide for things like cowboy boots, the pliability of the foam lets me position the lift completely into the heel pocket and then holds it in place without glues or tape.
