Historic Charleston Matelasse Bedspread with scalloped edging
This bedspread is beautiful! More beautiful than the pictures reveal. It is a great value for the money and I do not reqret the purchase. I have a queen bed and would like it to have been just about 4" longer on the sides because of my bedframe. But still, I am very very satisfied with it. It does feel heavier than 10 lbs, great quality. Very little lint in drying it. It is very nice cotton and soft. I live in Texas, so cannot comment on warmth, but I am certain it will be very warm when needed.

Beautiful high quality bedspread.
Great size for thick and tall mattresses. I love the historic design. Looks very high quality. I got the king size in white. It was a nice natural white, not a stark blue white or a yellowish white. The weight is nice as well, not super heavy but not thin and cheap feeling either. After looking for a long time, (and a lot of returns,) very pleased with this one!

Perfect for me
This was EXACTLY what I wanted for my king-sized bed: a bedspread, NOT a coverlet, heavy enough but not TOO heavy, beautiful jacquard weave matelasse with a simple yet elegant pattern. I washed it before putting it in my bed and it took three cycles to dry, and it did shrink a bit, but Iโm unconcerned; Iโve had a bedspread like this before, and it stretches from its dryer shrinkage after a few days. Itโs a perfectly adequate size after shrinkage side-to-side (thatโs where I expect a little stretching) and more that adequate top-to-bottom - plenty of room to tuck under pillows. Iโm honestly delighted. The color is ivory and maybe a shade darker than I hoped, but similar to picture. Iโm pleased with the price as well.

UPDATE : Perfect Weight
UPDATE: I still love this spread HOWEVER it does shrink a lot when washing. I purchase the oversized queen for my full bed and the fit was perfect with the bedspread just touching the floor. Now after washing it has shrunk so much it is 2" off the floor on both sides and foot (if I want enough to cover pillows with spread). So I would recommend that you have it DRY CLEANED ONLY. This is a very nice quality matelasse bedspread. It is the same weight as my current coverlets which add some warmth without a lot of weight. When it is coolish I will only use the bedspread with a top sheet. When winter comes in Minnesota I will use the matelasse coverlet under the bedspread (in between the top sheet and the bedspread). Now I will say that I do tend to be very warm a lot of the time - so some folks who get cold easier might need a warmer blanket under the bedspread. The 'inside' of the bedspread is fairly smooth but IMO would be more comfortable with a top sheet. And the size is perfect - I purchased the oversized Queen for my full bed as I no longer want to deal with the inconvenience of a bed skirt and keeping it clean. The drop from the top of my mattress to the floor is 25.5" and this spread touches the floor on 3 side and plenty of length to cover 4 pillows easily. I am extremely happy with this purchase and have recommended to some friends already who were looking for something like this. I have not washed it as yet but if something is not good after that I will come back and update my review with details.

Nice, but thicker & heavier than expected
This bedspread seems like decent quality, and it is pretty. But it is much thicker & heavier than I expected--thicker than other 100% cotton Matelasse bedspreads I've owned over the years (it seems difficult to find this sort of bedspread these days). I bought this to replace one that's a much lighter color that no longer worked as well in my new bedroom. This new bedspread is twice as thick and heavy as the old one. This really surprised me. It's much too heavy for summer. Also, a few reviews had said that this bedspread shrinks a lot. I have a queen bed and my old cotton Matelasse bedspread is a queen, but it's not quite as wide as I'd like with my very, very deep mattress (bedspread doesn't hang down all the way to the "dust ruffle" on both sides). So, I bought a king in this new Charleston bedspread for extra width, expecting it to shrink a little. When I washed it, it did not shrink at all. So, it's a little too wide for my bed. I washed on warm and dried on low, which is how I usually handle washing such items. But, maybe if I wash & dry on high it will shrink a little. Overall, it's a pretty good bedspread (and these things are kind of hard to find these days!), but the extreme thickness and heavy weight of this are simply unexpected for a 100% cotton Matelasse bedspread. I will have to wait until winter to use it. UPDATE: I washed again on hot and dried on high to try to shrink it. The bedspread held up fine, but did not shrink at all, as several reviewers had said theirs did when washed. So, it's still a bit too wide, and that's with my 18" tall mattress on a queen bed. Guess I should have bought the queen. I don't know why some people have significant shrinkage with theirs and I've had none!? The thickness and heaviness are definitely still problematic, though--it gets too hot. I think it'll be too much in winter, too. I wish I'd returned this before using it when I saw how thick and heavy it was. It still seems like good quality, but we've been using it less than 2 months (& 2 washes).

Nice bedspread that can be used year-round
I wanted a traditional bedspread for my queen-sized bed. My bed sits high and the mattress is deep. I measured the bed from the floor, over the width of the bed and down to the floor again. The queen-sized bedspread wouldn't give me the coverage I wanted. However, the dimensions of the king-sized bedspread should work. Before washing it, I put it on my bed and it fit without the sides hitting the floor (which is what I wanted). But I went ahead and washed it, and dried it on medium high heat since it could do with a little shrinkage. Put it back on the bed and it fits great now. It didn't shrink very much, but enough. It's medium weight so I can be used year round if you like. And I like the South Carolina colonial themes. The pictures below were taken after I washed and dried the bedspread. The throw, shams, and decorative pillow were purchased separately from different retailers.
