The thermometer is easy to set up. Remove the green rear cover and insert the two supplied AAA batteries. Once the batteries are inserted, press the ‘start’ button on the fron t to turn the unit on. To ensure that the unit is in the correct mode, press the ‘mode’ button, situated above the batteries until the head icon can be seen on the display screen. This allows you to carry out forehead and ear measurements. When in this mode, there are three different types of measurements that can be taken:A) Forehead spot measurementB) Forehead scan measurementC) Ear measurementTo take the forehead spot or ear measurements, press the start button once. The unit will beep while the measurement is being taken. The forehead scan measurement is slightly different. To do this, press and hold the start button while scanning the unit from left to right across the forehead. To take an ear measurement, the green cap that covers the sensor unit should be removed. This can be done by twisting the cap slightly to loosen it.The temperature is displayed on the screen. It is possible to choose centigrade or farenheit by pressing the mode button on the rear. As well as showing the temperature, the colour of the display screen also changes to indicate a normal temperature (green), a slight fever (orange), or a high fever (red).In terms of accuracy, it is very hard to gauge how accurate this device is without something else to callibrate it against. My plan is to use this as a first point of call to get a rough idea as to how high the temperature is. If it looks like the temperature is elevated, then further checks can be carried out with an additional thermometer. This unit is useful, as it is less invasive and easier to use on a young toddler who doesn’t like his temperature taken. I suspect that the ear readings are more accurate than the forehead readings.The build quality feels okay and the unit comes with a storage bag which is a nice touch.

The media could not be loaded.  This thermometer is so easy to use. It takes 2 AAA batteries which are provided so you can use it straight out of the box. It has a simple pictorial and plain english quick start leaflet so you can use the thermometer straight away if needed and a longer multilanguage manual. The batteries fit in a compartment on the inside of the handle that slides open. Despite the curved shape the batteries fit neatly into their slots. Then you press the start button wait 2 seconds for the device to calibrate and then hold the device 3-5 cms from the forehead, press start and a few seconds later the device gives 3 beeps and you can read the large digital display of the temperature. Youc an also remove the green plastic cap on the top of teh termomter to reveal an ear probe if you prefer to take temperature that way. The termometer comes with a soft grey suedette drawstring puch for storage. To be honest I didn't expect the thermometer to be great as it feels light int the hand and not solid and weighty like a braun or other big brand thermometer but it works really well. I took all my family's temperature (forehead) and then checked with a Tommy Tipee probe and found the results to be consistent and accurate. So much esier to use than an probe underarm thermometer. I hd read that forehaed thermometers were inaccurate but thus far this one works well. No need to disturb a poorly child. So useful to have in the med box.

Easy to use, average person o.k. seems accurate but -Gift for elderly relative, I can hardly hear beeps relative no chance, way too quiet.The cap comes of easy, almost too easy had to catch in hand or would pop off and onto floor, but one small plastic pin top and bottom to get on in location slots fiddly for older hands and worry easy to break, too fiddly hard to see.So ordering relative a diffrent one and will give this to another younger relative.

The media could not be loaded.  It is easy to use, showing very quick what temperature is, but I noticed it shoes a bit different temperature when check forehead and when check ear, I do not know if it is normal but I checked ear all the time and I was fine with that

I actually like this thermometer very much, especially because it uses a common AAA battery size, and it does not have issues when rechargeable NiMH batteries are used. Many infrared body thermometers fail to work when the voltage drops below 1.35-1.4v, but this one appears to be just fine with the lower NiMH voltages.This item actually reminds me of my Exergen thermometer since you can swipe it across your forehead to get a reading. Although the Exergen works slightly differently, I like how this thermometer captures the maximum temperature during its scan time so it gives you better confidence that you are capturing any hot spots on the forehead and not a false negative reading.I have also tried this in the ear and comparing those readings with the swipe of my forehead. Usually these readings are within 0.2F so they have been very consistent. Pointing the thermometer at one spot of the forehead (and at a distance) generates the most variations, but this is expected since various spots of the forehead is not at constant temperature. This is why I think being able to swipe the thermometer across the head makes this actually a great body thermometer, as compared to the many other thermometers out there that support just one mode (e.g. reading one point at a distance).

I bought this product before my baby was born, due to the reviews I was skeptical but I said ok, let see what happens, So I went ahead and bought this product. I child was born a few days ago, and I keep changing the batteries, thinking is was the battery that was faulty, 5 different new set of batteries , so today I took my child's temp and it gave me over 10 different reading in 15 mins, so I was scared and took my 7 day old daughter to the emergency room, thinking her temp was throw the foot from all the high reading from this temometer, we got there and her temp at 96.7 which is a little low for an infant, and the doctor and stuff did not want to let us go because one I did not carry this faulty temometer and 2 I told them about the high temp that my husband and I saw from this product, my child alot had a spinal tap for no reason, because of this stupid product due to malfunction, we went home and ruled against the productor, and the stupid doctor all he could thing about is how he was going to get payed telling us that we could not leave the hospital with the producer so we let, they took the blood and the urine, and we left. This product is bad new and unreasonable, we went to walgreens and bought a temp that you stick in the bum and she temp is constantly 98.5/98.6 which is normal for good for a new born baby, I have been checking twice every hour for the last 4 hours, and normal no high and low temp.I will be writing to the company they are selling malfunction product to the public, and it almost costed me my child and my husband them calling DSW, thinking because as parents we ruled against the producer that I known would have could more infections and problems from working in the neonates ward some time bad, and they though that because we left that our child was getting abused, which is not the case at all. My husband is amazing and does everything for me and our new born baby.

Seems to be ok

Just received this item and I put it together and tested it. Works as described. What's outstanding to me is that you don't have to mess about pressing buttons in a certain way. With this machine, you just press one button one time then it gives you the reading. I tested mine several times at the same place on my body and always received readings within 0.1 of each other. Altogether a great value.
