Fountain Pen History. Lots of new info for me.
Interesting book to read. The history of these fountain pen companies was quite enjoyable. The illustrations were not up to the level I'd expect from such a nicely written book.

Great book on pens
Could this book have clearer photographs- yes. However, the book is comprehensive and covers U.S. pens in great detail. I am so pleased I purchased this book on Amazon

Partly useful pictures, not comprehensive
This book covers the primary models from four pen manufacturers up until the mid 20th century, providing some history and some B&W photos of a selection of pens (not comprehensive). The bulk of the pages are dedicated to B&W reproductions of advertisements, with rather poor image quality. The descriptions of individual pens is almost completely absent, and no real guide to distinguish them beyond low-quality B&W images. For example, if you wanted to distinguish between Sheaffer Snorkels (Special, Admiral, Statesman, etc), you could not do it from this book. No resources for color options are described (which were available), let alone shown (all images are low-quality black and white). The time lines cease very early, and many models listed in those timelines are not shown. Much better resources are available on-line. For broad overviews of of these four makers, this does the job. But for a guide to assist in collective, one can do far better. If you are interested in the advertisements (and satisfied with B&W renderings), then this is better than many resources available on-line.

Great book for the money
This book has it all, just a shame that it is in black and white pictures vs color! But for the Fountain Pen collector, this is truly one of the must haves in the tool box!

great book for someone new in pen collecting
Very nice book loaded with pictures and values. This was extremely helpful to me as I am learning and selling off some of my fathrer's pen collection. Highly recommended.

Fair B&W images.
Neat reprints of ads. General quality of images in book is fair at best. All B&W. Not helpful for researching pens. Too often the images we to low in quality to compare them to one in my hand.
