HENCKELS Modernist Razor-Sharp Steak Knife Set of 4, German Engineered Informed by 100+ Years of Mastery

These are large sized heavy steak knives. We think they are lovely. The textured handles are very comfortable to hold. We've only had them for a couple of months, but they show no signs of tarnish or wear so far. The serrations on these knives are tighter and more vertical than most steak knives. They do cut cleanly, but I find less pressure and more horizontal motion, more like a sawing motion, works well.

For years I've wanted to find steak knives that don't have wooden handles, and here they are. Very nice knives that feel great in the hand and look fabulous. Sadly, one of the knives in our 2 packs had minor scrape on one of the handles, but the blemish is hardly noticeable so not worth returning (from overseas). Overall, absolutely love these knives: could be enhanced by having a nice presentation case in which you can store 8-12 knives.

These are a tad light and do rust, but are very pretty.

I read the reviews before purchasing. As a lefty, one review that caused me pause was being difficult for left-handers. I'm glad I ignored that review, the knives are effective for lefties. In addition, the knives aren't too large and they cut meats just fine; no shredding as one reviewer complained about.

My husband and I much prefer straight-edge steak knives to begin with, but as serrated knives go, these are especially awful. We HATED these knives. They were some of the most unpleasant, ineffective steak knives we’ve ever encountered. The serrations are so deep and dull, it’s amazing they cut anything; they certainly don’t cut meat. They just gouge and tear at steaks and other meats. And take heed, you’ll need to fasten your plate to the table somehow while you use these, because the amount of pressure and force you’ll need to apply to saw off each bite will send food and plates sliding around the table. Additionally, the handles are SO heavy and there’s no balance to each knife; if you try to set your knife down on your plate, be prepared for it to flip and fall. An absolute letdown from Henckels.

We bought 8 of these Henckels steak knives to replace our aging Wusthoff steak knives. We had long given up on "hand wash only" treatment for our steak knives and the wooden handles had begun cracking from repeated dishwasher cleaning and they required frequent sharpening. These Henckels seemed like a great answer for those of us who resist hand washing every knife after every meal. When new, they look and feel great. The satin well-weighted handles accent the shiny stainless blades for a high-end feel. But after only a couple uses and dishwasher cycles, the "stainless" blades are now badly stained - beyond a simple soft-scrub hand cleaning. Yes, we realize that knives should ideally be hand washed, but that's just nor realistic for us and the all-metal design and dishwasher-safe claims were appealing. Also, while the serrated blades seemed a reasonable alternative to straight blades in need of regular sharpening, we quickly learned the trade-off: serrated blades may stay "sharp" longer, but they tear through meats and chicken rather than neatly slicing it.

These have a bit of weight to them, but cut great. Would definitely recommend these knives.

Even though the product description states that these knives are dishwasher safe, they are not. We have stopped using ours as they get rust stains whenever they get washed in the dishwasher.
