Can you bend the prongs in order to fit both into one marshmallow?

No. They are very solid. You can roast a marshmallow on each or put 1 hotdog across both for more stability while roasting.

doesn't the stick get hot? I'm afraid of burning myself when taking the food off the stick

We used these to roast hot dogs, then marshmallows. The stick didn't get hot, but the food was hot, as I am sure, we're the prongs. We just used a bun to pull off hot dogs, and scraped the marshmallows off between 2 graham crackers. It was a 2 person job. You could use a silicone oven mitt for hot dogs, I suppose.

Are the prongs small enough for marshmallows?

Yes, you can actually roast 2 marshmallows at once (one on each prong). When they get hot, the marshmallows do want to try to spin around when you turn the stick, though. But I LOVE these! Extra long handle for safety, and easy to store & transport!
