The Leptin Diet explains how to unleash the power of hormones to resolve fatigue, food cravings, thyroid problems, and body weight issues. Mastering the fat hormone leptin is the single most important factor in preventing obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. The Leptin Diet contains five simple lifestyle guidelines to get the hormone leptin into balance for permanent weight loss, increased energy, and optimum health. What is Leptin? Fat cells produce the powerful hormone leptin, a primary force instructing metabolism, weight loss, and hormone balance. Leptin communicates directly to your brain, telling the brain how much fat is in storage. It controls appetite, energy, and metabolic rate. Leptin problems are the primary reason for food cravings, overeating, faulty metabolism, the obsession with food, and heart disease. Read The Leptin Diet and notice the difference! Review: AUTHOR, nutritionist, Byron Rchards was one of the very best. Knew more about healing and prevention than most conventnl doctors - Byron Richards, the author, was an excellent nutritionist. I bought it and didnt read it. As I said, it must have been as good as all his other info and videos. His knowledge was superior to that of most conventional doctors. Review: Very informative. - This is very well written, easily understandable and interesting. I have been looking for something that would help beyond just a diet. I am 52 years old woman and am recovering from back surgery. I have checked out and tried many different diets without much success in losing weight. The Leptin Diet has research behind it, seems fairly easy to follow (the Five Rules) and doesn't seem to eliminate all fats, natural sweets and basically enjoyable foods. It would have been even a better value if it included example menus and a list of foods that contain good proteins, good carbs, and good fats. I am looking forward to resetting my metabolism and getting back to a healthy weight.

Effective, common sense
I accidentally happened upon this book. On a forum I frequent, one of the folks posted a very scientific explanation of leptin that was, frankly, over my head. But my curiosity was piqued, especially since I was, at the time, trying to lose a couple pounds. After doing my research on the subject, and coming across many articles on the subject that were over my head as well (I was *not* a science major!), I found that Byron Richards was supposed to have written a good book on the subject and in non-scientific terms, Mastering Leptin. I didn't want to pay for that book, so I cheaped out and bought this one. I just wanted to read about the basics, to see if I might be interested in the longer book. I didn't want to pay too much money for a book I couldn't understand! So, I bought this, and it was perfectly comprehensible and made such perfect sense that I found a way to apply these principles to my own life. That was about three weeks ago, when I was trying to lose five pounds. I've lost eight so far. And it's basically effortless, as long as you look at it properly. The 'diet' boils down to this: Don't snack, and plan your meals for at least 4 hours apart, though 5-6 is preferable. Also, give your body time to digest your food before bedtime (about 5 hours). There are also guidelines on what you should put on your plate (not too many carbs, a reasonable amount of protein and non-starchy veggies). And include a little exercise in your days. I almost knocked this down a star, because he's a little over the top about natural foods (beyond just plain eating organic). However, the principles of eating described in the book are just so... good that I didn't want to turn anyone off the book. Anyone who has a mind of their own can figure out what is or isn't going to work for them, personally. And common sense is all it takes to figure out if this plan is do-able for you. It's worked so well for me that, already, I can't imagine why I would grab a snack when my stomach wasn't truly empty. Just habit. A hard habit to break, but I feel so much better now! I've learned to distinguish between feeling 'snacky' and actually being hungry, with the help of this book. Good job.

Good information but no plan except for 5rules.
Good information but I now feel like "All is lost" and there's not Hope to get my weight under control. I can follow his 5 rules biut it seems likemy body is going to do what it wants to prevent me from going into, starvation mode. I lost 30 lbs over the course of a year and yet couldn't lose the last 10 and now my body is saying OKAY.. I've had enough! Time to start storing again. I don't know where to go from here.

Incredibly effective
I'll begin with some quick facts: I lost 64 pounds in 4 months, going from 308 to 244. I still need to lose another 50 pounds to get fit, but I now feel like it is a reasonable goal, rather than an impossible challenge. To be frank, I'm not the kind of guy who had been strugling with ineffective diets. Just about every diet I took worked for at least some time, so shaving off weight was not a problem. Losing a lot of weight though, was a big struggle, and keeping it off was nearly impossible. After 5 to 6 weeks, all previous diet plans started to fail, metabolic rate was lowered dramatically by the brain's survival drive and eventually I gave up, just to regain all the weight back. Now, the big thing about this book is not its recipes, because it simply doesn't have any. The real good thing here is the down to earth simple and easy to understand explanation about the metabolic mechanism related to distribution and absorbtion of energy, and Leptin's central role in controling that mechanism. You can build your own meals very easily and with great flexibility, since there are no "carved in stone" rules for what you eat. How frequently you eat and how well you distribute your food categories is a lot more important. The 5 basic rules can be followed anywhere. One could find suitable meals in any restaurant menu and carry on eating according to the plan forever, because it is not really a diet, it's just a framework for how you choose and balance your food. After 4 months, I can intuitively choose foods and I have never felt I was on a diet. Looking at the numbers drop in the scale every week is always surprising, because looking back at what I ate during the week, I'd really not expect to lose any weight, but I did anyway. I'm on a steady 2 pounds per week rate now. I'll finish by asking readres to bear in mind that I'm not a health professional of any kind and I'm not a nutrition specialist. So, please don't take my positive review as an indication that this will work equally well for you. I'm positive it will work, but I'm even more certain anyone looking to lose weight should read this book and at least try its suggestions.

The best book on the subject so far / Hasta ahora el mejor libro sobre la materia.
So far I haved read many books regarding dieting and nutrition and almost every aproach regarding dieting only focus on lowering fats, or avoiding food combinations. Also the new trend of fitness with crossfit, HIIT, metabolic resistance trainings all target sugar burning not fat burning. In additon you mus take age into the equation to figure it out that things don't quite work the same for everyone. The Lepting Diet is more a lifestyle than a diet fad, and it takes a little patience to get your metabolism into gear. The first thing you need to know is to learn to listen to your body and symptons before you can approach the right supplementation. At my age which is 40, things get more complex in order to burn some fat. I found this book a very usefull and good guide toward my long term approach to weight management although I'm only slighly overweight.

Sticking with this for life, balanced my hormones!
This book has changed my life. I have been on so many diets it's ridiculous! I had given up all dieting, but still had a major problem with heavy, long and painful periods that I have also been looking for a solution. I've tried lots of remedys for that as well, nothing help and I will not go on hormones. That is how I came across this book, Internet searches for my hormone problems led me to LEPTIN. leptin is the big guy in charge of all your hormones, it tells your thyroid what to do and in turn affects hormone imbalance. I have been following these 5 simple rules for about 5 months, I fail at eating a small meal for dinner, but have managed to not get seconds and that's a big step. My periods are so much better, I mean just amazing better and manageable! I have lost 10 lbs give or take, it will be more once I can conquer my fear of a smaller portion for dinner. I am not nearly as hungry and I once was, and actually enjoy the challage of waiting sometimes, because I know I am burning fat. The weight is not primary for me, although I could use to lose 50 lbs. it's the hormone balancing that will keep me eating this way for life. I do not miss snacking, it always made me go off the deep end when it came to meal times, even though I was less hungry to start the meal, I ate much, much more. If I want desert, which I allow 2 times a week, I eat it immediately after dinner and that help me eat muck less.

Byron Richards claims - week support
I found this book to contain some good information. But it is so biased and slanted to try to promote Byron Richard's unfounded theories as facts. I think this book makes claims that the author has no scientific study to prove, and promotes a diet that has no scientific study to support. He manipulates and presents only that info that supports his theory. Finally, I subscribed to Byron Richards newsletter - he talks about his own personal frequent extreme diets of weeks of nothing but protein shakes with fiber. If his leptin theories held water, why would he resort to such extremes for his own weigh management? For a person to claim he reviewed 9,000 studies - he only uses those that can help him make a profit.

Very good weight loss guide
The Leptin Diet provides a very clear and easy to understand explanation of how we put on excess weight and, even more important, how to rid yourself of unhealthy fat without putting it back on again. Clear advice about what and when to eat it, starting with protein and low GI carbs at breakfast. Special emphasis on how to get rid of dangerous fat from the belly area. This is not a fad diet, and I would thoroughly recommend it.

Interesting reading. It talks about the chemical or hormonal ...
Interesting reading. It talks about the chemical or hormonal reactions in our bodies that take place when we eat and the effects they have on our bodies and cravings. It discusses the importance of not only WHAT we eat but WHEN we eat to make the most of our bodies natural fat burning mode.
