I used this while running electric appliances while my kitchen was being rewired. Since they were all running on the same circuit, I had to be sure not to overload the circuit and this made monitoring the total amps being draw a cinch. And this seemed to fit the bill, it was cheap and looked good in the ad. It worked very well and was very convenient and as accurate as I could easily test it to be with my other meters. It would let me know if I was about to overload the circuit running the hotplate and the toaster oven at the same time, which saved me a bunch of walks out to the fuse box in the night. But, and this is a big one, it taught me a lot about the changing power usages of appliances as well as the rather poor power factor of some of my devices. I wound up learning a lot about the power usage of my kitchen gadgets. It gives some pretty technical information you might not understand if you don't have an electronics degree, but there's still lots of info there to let you know your power usage and costs of running an appliance. Highly recommended.

Been putting off buying one of these...this is pretty nice and for the price, seems built well enough and is fairly easy to use, but definitely check the included manual for all the features.

It helps determine the max and running wattage of plugged in appliances, which in turn has helped me set up a plan for when I use the generator. It even displays Hz, a double check of the frequency of the generator. With some generators the frequency is adjustable. I haven't checked whether it is with my generator. The current limit seems to be up to 16A (depending on the voltage). I'd rather have 20A in the US. Plus, I gather that the default overload power limit is 3600 W, and that in the US the user should change it to 1800 W. I think that's a mistake, as I doubt many would make the change (I haven't - yet). And instead of an overload alarm, the unit should trip off (and be resettable). But maybe that's expecting too much from an $18 item. So I'm keeping the 5 stars.

Accurate and easy to use. I've measured various appliances around the house to see how to most efficiently heat my spaces. It turns out that my kotatsu is extremely efficient for staying warm throughout the day, and my oil-filled radiator is best at night. Good to know! The brightness is great when the backlight is on, and there's a little blue light that shines when electricity is in use. It's easy to reset and change measurement modes. Overall this little thing was a great purchase and is already saving me money on electricity.

I bought this to monitor the energy use/duty cycle of a small space heater I use for supplemental heat. It seems to work fine and the wattage draw appears consistent with what I'd expect to see. I like that, with a little bit of fiddling, you can put in your current, local kwh cost and have it do the math for you automatically so you can see total cost over time. You don't really need that, but it is convenient. What don't I like? That the display isn't backlit. There is a small blue light that turns on when power is running through it, but you will need to supply enough light to read it, which turns out to be somewhat inconvenient given that most outlets are not exactly at eye level. If I were improving this product I'd make the display bigger, add a backlight that could be turned off, and angle the display slightly so when it is plugged into a normal outlet it is easier to see when looked down on from above. But overall, it seems fine, and I'm not unhappy I bought it over the much more expensive name brand one we've all heard of.

I’m very happy with this meter! It will tell me what chargers sip power when they are not charging something! .4 watts is power being wasted! My TV uses 117 watts when it is on… & 1.4 watts when it’s off! Some phone chargers are power pigs, and some use nothing when the phone is charged! If you care why your electric bills are high?! Get one of these!

This meter is super handy, you can calculate watts on your devices and figure how much it costs by putting your kwh price in the meter

It's the best meter from the bunch I tried, and the only one I will keep.

I needed something to measure the energy consumption of my heat pump this winter. This baby did it. Works great. Gives me all the info I need. Have also used it to measure the consumption of other appliances. Only criticism would be that it has no backlight for the display, so is hard to read in a poorly lit room. But I knew that when I ordered it.

Edit: the company sent me a replacement unit and everything works beautifully. I have adjusted my rating to reflect the company's efforts to rectify the issue and I appreciate their customer service. My initial issue is still below but it has indeed been corrected and is no longer an issue. The + button does not work which is the button that shows the watts draw, the main reason I purchased the unit. This also prevents me from setting the costs and any of the limit alarms.

I purchased this Ketotec because my Kill-O-Watt isn't able to show the Maximum power consumption. I need to determine that kind of power does my General Electric home refigerator draws? The attached screen capture shows the devices screens after 1:24 hour usage. As you can see, the Max reported was 634 Watts? Which is the value reported as soon as I plugged the refrigerator in and the compressor kicked in. Now, I was tolf by General Electric that the compressors needs 2200 Watts of power when it kicks in. So, either this Ketotec device is lying or the GE person was clueless.
