When it was new in 2022 it packed a punch it was fast, Easy to function, strong signal quality, Beautifully designed worked with new and older devices so didn’t have any compatibility issues, has options to adjust bands to work with older wireless devices, But after 2 years of usage after that first year that final year it just started to become a bit unstable needed to be restarted more frequently was getting a bit warmer then to the point when the device just ultimately failed, It was and is a great router but definitely was good I chose the 3 yrs protection plan when purchasing Asurion they covered me and reimbursed the full cost and I went back with Asus brand Rog-Be98 PRO , But 2 years is rather normal for one to stop working under high usage , I would recommend this product For a low priced good gaming router , I loved every minute of how this big guy performed everyday 24/7 2 years and 2 months managed to hold 25+ devices continuously alot of download and upload continuously , download speeds my internet provider of 2 gigs 50 up I would see 2125.16 Down and 52.60 Up Continuously on this device even till the very end it performed spectacular I would recommend for a home that is a light to moderate gamer but if you have multiple gaming devices running at once it will last about the same time but I think it could last longer for a moderate gamer I wouldn’t say this is a high end gaming router but will get the job done

TL;DRThis router is beautiful, well-built and fast with a lot of important features if you have multi-gig internet. For $450 or less, it's a no-brainer to snatch it in 2023. However, ASUS should give its firmware more attention.Full version:After returning RT-BE96U for switch issues, I snatched GT-AXE16000 for $440 during the Black Friday flash sales. It's a beautiful and well-built router with a ton of features -- 6GHz band, 2x10GbE, 1x2.5GbE, etc. The range is also noticeably better than my old AX88U.There's one thing I want to mention -- this router seems to not receive much attention from ASUS in terms of firmware updates. The last firmware update was from Apr 19, 2023 as of Nov 23, 2023. Even my old AX88U received more frequent updates than this flagship router.It's okay if the firmware is fully stable and flawless, but it's not. When Adaptive QoS is enabled, wired speed drops from ~2000-2100Mbps to 900Mbps`1300Mbps even after I added the test device to the list of gaming clients. As soon as Adaptive QoS is disabled, wired speed recovers. This issue exists on both the latest stable firmware 3.0.0.4.388.23012 and the latest beta firmware 9.0.0.6.102.4856. Right now, I simply disable QoS, but I wish flagship routers like GT-AXE16000 could receive more attention from ASUS.Overall, it's a very good router for $440. If you see it go on sale for close to $400 in 2023 and you have a multi-gig internet, I recommend buying it.

This router has been a solid investment for our household, especially with multiple people working from home while others are gaming. The performance is excellent—speeds are fast, connections are stable, and we haven’t had any major lag or dropouts even with multiple devices streaming, gaming, and video conferencing at the same time.The quad-band WiFi 6E and high-speed ports make a noticeable difference in speed and overall network efficiency. The mesh network support is a great feature, allowing us to extend coverage throughout the house without dead zones. The gaming acceleration features also help keep gaming smooth, even when other devices are heavily using the network.My only real complaint is the price—it’s definitely on the expensive side. However, if you need top-tier performance for a household with both remote work and heavy gaming, it’s worth it. It delivers on speed, reliability, and security, making it a great (though costly) choice.

The GT-AXE16000 is a superb and incredibly powerful router once you figure out how to change the default setting for all the WiFI frequencies so they don't clash for you to experience the constant drops as some users have reported here. The ASUS tech level 1 & 2 were not helpful at all besides asking me to return the unit for a fix after doing the very basic checks. This is not a simple plug & play router like the others if you have older IoT devices combined with newer ones like I do . You need to do some tweaks in the settings to make the old work with the new electronics.I had the same constant dropping issue too for a while and I mistakenly blamed the router for being bad until I started digging into the finer settings. I combined this router with an an older ASUS router to create a backhaul wired mesh and the wireless coverage in a 4300 sq ft home with a basement is excellent from any corner. It is working through many unmanaged network switches all over the place flawlessly. If you are not gamer, this router is not for you....overkill....go with a lower model. Good luck!

I replaced m old combo unit with this and the arris S33 (only because Ive had a lot of issue with nighthawks performance as a combo unit- mother in-laws 2 story home has excellent signal upstairs with the nighthawk unit we bought and zero signal downstairs despite the house being common construction with no copper shielding or concrete between the floors- the home was retrofitted and the signal lead for the coax is upstairs with the bedrooms) that being said she switched to a lower version of this unit and she has signal throughout the entire house now (truly omni-directional signal unlike her previous unit and they were about the same cost)The size of the unit isnt an issue for me but it is very large, each signal band can be divided into 3 groups from what i saw in the app and each can have its own permissions, each device can be optimized an even have its access to internet blocked reduced, and a few other things. Kids devices can be filtered to appropriate content by age you choose and further restricted if needed, one touch password/network sharing broadcast, multiple networks allow you to setup guest networks easier, the 6G isnt very viable at the moment and rumors of 7G coming out kinda make it gimmicky at this time.... 2 separate 5G signals is nice and the range is much better than my old arris surfboard SB0..... the lights can be turned off but theyre kinda nice depending on the situation and theyre fairly customizable, theres more ut the take away should be- very solid, fast (my 1gig service is 1gig unlike my last unit that was 79mbps-300mbps wireless), user friendly, app security, guest network, household appliance and app network.

_ TL;DR _Don't purchase for dual WAN._ BACKGROUND _I'm a web developer and semi-casual gamer with a background in SaaS and hardware tech support. I'm not a 'networking guy' but know enough to educate myself and troubleshoot that which I don't know._ WHY I BOUGHT IT _My wife and I both work from home and rely on high-speed internet connectivity. We get Spectrum internet for free through our HOA but my career requires much faster upload speed than Spectrum's abysmal offerings so we subscribe to Frontier's 5Gig plan.I wanted a dual WAN router that would allow me to use both ISPs—Frontier for our primary connection, then fail over to Spectrum in the extremely rare event that Frontier experiences an outage. Additionally, I was looking for a router with USB 3.0 support so I could plug in my hard drive (used only for hourly backups). The ASUS GT-AXE16000 seemed to meet that need . . . on paper at least; so I bought it._ PROS _1) Excellent 2.4Ghz rangeI have a 2-story home with several smart devices scattered throughout the inside and outside of the home. The WiFi range is so good it negates the need for a couple mesh TP-Link WiFi extenders that I had purchased just to ensure that the smart devices furthers away from my ISP's router have a solid connection.2) FeaturesThe GT-AXE16000 is incredibly feature-rich; shame that the ones I want to use aren't reliable or flat out don't work at all.3) Prioritization for GamersThis is actually pretty cool. There are a few different options to ensure that individual games or devices get bandwidth priority and will auto-apply NAT settings for you. Very sexy features for gamers or in my case gamer wannabes._ PROBLEMS _1) Dual Wan SupportNon-existent. Whether I'm in Fail Over mode or Load Balance mode, the secondary WAN will return one of several errors.1.1) " Your ISP's DHCP does not function properly"Whichever ISP/modem is set to the Primary WAN works fine and whichever ISP/modem is set to the Secondary WAN will return this error.1.2) "Network cable unplugged"Nope, definitely not. In purchasing this router I also purchased several CAT8 cables. I've tested them all with other devices and they work just fine. But this god-forsaken router wants to tell me a cable is unplugged? I think I know how to check if a cable is seated properly. This error only occurs on which WAN is set to Secondary.Update 20251024: Um, so dual WAN works now. I changed zero settings. It just started working and the secondary WAN is on Hot Standby just as it should be.3) "No disk detected"Okay so this thing will recognize that a disk is connected, but will not mount the disk which means I can't use the Time Machine feature. Part of the reason I bought this was to use my existing bus-powered drive to connect directly to the router rather than having to purchase a NAS device.Update 20251024: Figure out why I couldn't get this feature to work. The router will not mount APFS formatted drives. So if you're a Mac user and your OS is anything later than macOS Sierra (10.12.4), which was released in 2016 by the way, you will not be able to mount your storage.4) Guest Network InstabilityNot kidding, the guest network will just disappear sometimes. Other times the SSID is visible but has no internet connectivity. Sometimes, rebooting will fix it, sometimes it won't Sometimes changing the [insert random] setting will fix it, sometimes not. Completely unreliable.Update 20251024: Okay this one is on me. The Guest Network feature has a scheduling feature. I mistakenly misunderstood how this feature works in thinking that once a device connects to the Guest Network, that device would be removed after the schedule. Instead, the schedule feature affects the duration of Guest Network uptime, so once the schedule is complete, the Guest Network will just shut off. I've since disabled the scheduling feature and the Guest Network works just fine. My mistake.5) UI/UXThis one is debatable, but to me the user interface and experience is pretty terrible. All of the red hues are abrasive and reminds me of a poor layout of a MySpace profile made by some emo kid that thought they were a hacker because they copied and pasted some Javascript. It's bad. The verbiage used in the admin interface is broken english at best. If grammatical and punctuation errors were a virus, this interface has been severely infected. Not to mention some of the verbiage is flat out wrong. Example: "When the Primary WAN is detected to have an active internet connection using a physical cable for X continuous times, failback to the Primary WAN." The last "Primary WAN" should actually read, "Secondary WAN" as the associated tooltip describes as follows: "The time period criteria to trigger failback mechanism.When you change to the secondary WAN, the router will check how long primary WAN is connected. If the primary WAN connection is stable (longer than failback detect time), the connection will change to primary WAN."_ TROUBLESHOOTING _When in doubt reboot, right? Yeah that doesn't do a f*****g thing other than bring up some new problem. Hours of troubleshooting have led me to switching the ports my modems are plugged into, changing the "DHCP query frequency" setting to "Aggressive", "Continuous", and "Normal". I've cloned the MAC Address. Tried manual, static, and dynamic IPs . . . the list goes on. In the past 2 weeks, I've tried every single solution I could find from ASUS support docs and beyond. I've every support article from ASUS I could find for every issue I've encountered; none of their 'fixes' actually fix anything. This led me down a deep search for help outside of ASUS, what has worked for others has not worked for me (at least consistently)._ FINAL THOUGHTS _I am not the only person that has experienced the above issues and the issues persist for myself and many other owners of the GT-AXE16000. Heck, even AIO's will tell you that ASUS is notorious for Dual WAN/DHCP issues. I wish I did more research before purchasing this. I'll be returning it as soon as I find a reliable replacement.

I do not normally write reviews. I have been in IT for more than 20 years at large corporations and I rarely get impressed with anything that says WiFi. That said, I want to recommend this product to anyone who has had issues with their home WiFi connections. I live in a smart home with more than 100 2.4Ghz connections and ~50 5.0Ghz connections. This product combined with two ZenWIFI AirMesh hubs has completely transformed the wireless experience. If your done messing around and want to dominate the air with actual power, the GT-AXE16000 is not a joke. Everything running on 5.0Ghz is now pushing 900Mbs consistently with little to no deviation from that median mark. All of the security cameras are on their own 2.4Ghz channels separated from all the handheld devices. Nothing has dropped or reported more than a fraction of a second of loss. Netgear is no longer the boss.

Este dispositivo necesita de ciertos conocimientos técnicos avanzados, o bien, de una sólida voluntad de aprendizaje e investigación como para sacarle provecho. Pero una vez que está todo configurado correctamente, es una maravilla.En mi caso, lo compré para reemplazar el módem de la compañía de teléfonos completamente, bueno, estrictamente ese se quedó en modo Bridge solamente para recibir la señal de la fibra óptica, pero toda la gestión del enlace y administración de red la hace este dispositivo el cual se volvió el centro de gestión de toda mi red en mi casa y oficina en casa. Tengo una red WiFi 6 exclusivamente para mis consolas, la gaming pc y algunos NAS y servidores, una red WiFi 5 para dispositivos móviles, y una red de visitantes 2.4. También hago uso intensivo de VPNs y Firewall. Además como tiene un par de puertos de 10G Ethernet, pude conectar un switch Ubiquiti para expandirlos y de esta manera puedo enlazar los equipos más importantes para mi trabajo y para mi centro de entretenimiento. En general los dispositivos más críticos en mi red local, utilizan cable, no wireless, así que pues es ideal que tenga estas capacidades.Puntos negativos:* Tuve que instalar la versión beta del firmware para tener acceso a ciertas funciones que todavía no están disponibles en la distribución estable del firmware.* No permite instalar un ad blocker, por ejemplo, entre otras cosas que perfectamente podría dado su procesador y sus características de hardware. Pero bueno, estas otras cosas de las que hablo de por sí las tenía implementadas en mi homelab, en el cual tengo un clúster de Raspberry Pi + Pi-Hole dentro de mi red, así que pues no perdí esa capacidad, pero si creo que al tener un precio tan elevado, y unas specs de hardware tan sobresalientes, sería razonable que se pudiera hacer el ad blocking e instalar otras aplicaciones en el router.* A mí en particular, me molesta que tenga "leds", pero bueno, es un mal menor porque se puede apagar por completo.

Funciono super bien, lo configure para que sea un modem extra y lo conecte con el ethernet, es vital seguir el instructivo para que salga todo bien.
