The Chupacabra Ate the Candelabra

The pictures are striking, and I love the use of color. The play on words is funny throughout the book. We’ve read it a few times and my 4 and 6-year olds think it’s very funny in the end. The three goats who are scared of the chupacabre ultimately discover he’s not after them, but that his favorite food is goat cheese... I was so excited when I saw this title because I thought the book would describe the legend or story of the chupacabre. It doesn’t. It assumes you know it. I looked up a bunch of background and shared it with my kids- which was fun!

Can't see what anyone sees of value in this book except the artwork. Silly story about warding off a goat-eating monster with everything one can find, then when all fails becoming his friend-he doesn't eat friends-and working tirelessly to provide him with all the goat cheese he can consume along with everything else in sight. Maybe story misses something in translation but I don't think so.As an eighty year-old grandmother who was born in the depression and whose earliest memories are of WWII, I still harbor resentment toward the voracious monsters around the world who destroyed everything in their way. Don't think cartoon versions of them are funny either.

I ordered this book for my granddaughter through the kids book club. It's now her very favorite! The tongue-twisting text is hilarious and the lessons learned are worth every penny. The time it gives me with her, filled with giggles and laughter, are priceless.

This book is adorably illustrated and SO much fun to read! My daughter (6 yo) giggles every time we read it and asked for it over and over again. Highly recommend!

Really fun book from the unique storyline to the vibrant pictures. Definitely a good one.
