Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection: Kraven's Last Hunt [New Printing]

If you're here for Kraven's Last Hunt, it's here, and it's good. Focused on Kraven's character wanting to complete his final hunt, we see what Kraven's true intention with his hunt is, what psychological torment this has on Peter, and the final resolution to this sad story. This is the final story in the collection, so we don't see any immediate resolutions to some of the final moments in the last issue, but you do get the main Kraven story. The rest of the book is a collection of comics leading up to and the main marriage comic with Pete and MJ tying the knot, which were all also entertaining. The book is paperback, so don't expect it to stay creaseless for long, especially with the lack of packaging outside the typical amazon box/sleeve (what seems to be the standard for most amazon sold & shipped books). You might see it jostled in the packaging, but fortunately for me I didn't have that issue.

In this book, Spiderman is wearing the black, symbiote suit (before it had an effect on his attitude), and balancing the two halves of his life as best he can. The stories are just fun, Spiderman stories, leading up to the titular Kraven's Last Hunt. But once that story begins, the book ramps up. Spiderman is bested by Kraven who is looking to prove his superiority to Spiderman and prove he is even a better Spiderman, donning the blue and red suit which Peter has cast off. I won't spoil the story if you haven't read it, but I highly recommend you do. This story very much stands the test of time.

I didn't do much homework before buying and looking at this book, I was just expecting the Kraven story, I didn't realize the collection would include several stories that preceded, and I was very pleasantly surprised by the high quality of all the stories. The stories before "Kraven's Last Hunt" are great, pretty standard Spider-Man stuff but very well done and enjoyable. I especially enjoyed the issues with Wolverine, unusually dark and really excellent story telling. There were a couple of issues that weren't very interesting to me mixed in there, but it's also a huge collection so a couple stinkers make the rest smell better. There's probably not a lot I have to say about "Kraven's Last Hunt", if you do any research you'll see how well regarded it is. For me, it was easily the best made, most enjoyable Spider-Man story I've ever read. I couldn't believe how dark and psychological the story and artwork is. Truly a comic book masterpiece in my opinion and pretty much everyone else's who I've ever spoken to. If you're a comic book fan and/or Spider-Man fan to any degree there's no reason not to get this collection.

Story is amazing art not so great iconic stories

The original volume of the Amazing Spider-man has a way of immersing the reader in Peter Parker's life which few other comics have been able to pull off with their characters. His life is constantly moving forward, and the stories all seem to contribute to a single, overarching narrative. So considering that, it's a wonder how a story arc with such a starkly different tone feels so natural set against the backdrop of Spider-man's then twenty-five year history. Kraven's Last Hunt is the best tale from Spidey's best era (the mid-80s on through Micheline/MacFarlane's introduction of Venom). The story sits at a perfect point in AMS history, with more depth than the comics of Stan Lee's run, but without the convoluted crap of the Clone Saga. Absolutely loved how thick this collection was. It provided all the background that previous collections didn't (Spider-man vs. Wolverine, part of the Hobgoblin arc, and even the famous wedding in AMS annual #21). When you actually get to the six-issue storyline, there is much more weight behind it, which makes it all the more satisfying to read. I do wish it could have included an older issue with Kraven, perhaps his first appearance, just to familiarize us more with the character. Regardless, both the artwork and writing are fantastic, and it really makes me hope that the upcoming Spider-man films can take inspiration from this era in the comics.

A great collection of Spider-Man stories from the mid 80s! This not only includes the six part “Kraven’s last hunt“ saga, this also has a few other hidden gems. I got it for my girlfriend who is also a comic fan. She’s about five years younger than me and really didn’t start getting in the comics until she was in her teens. I described some of the stories I grew up on and she couldn’t believe that they wrote dark material back then. When I told her that even Spider-Man had a few dark stories, she was interested so I got her this volume as a gift! So far she’s loving it, and she does love that they did try to balance the dark with some lighter stories. Two of them that I can’t wait to hear what she has to say on is The one shot Spider-Man versus Wolverine story as well as the famous wedding story between Mary Jane and Peter Parker. Highly recommend for those fans that remember those stories from back then and for those who have only heard of them, but want to see the actual story!

This is a classic comic tale and should be read by every comic fan.

The definitive Kraven and Spidey story. Just plain epic. Fantastic Edition.

One of the all time greatest stories. Well worth a read whether you are a fan of spiderman or not.

Kraven shows that even in his own little neck of the woods, Spiderman isn't always top dog. This story resonated with me like no other as a youth and I've been telling people about its power for thirty odd years now I reckon. Fantastic stuff.

Kraven's Last Hunt is widely considered to be the best Spider-man story ever told, and I tend to agree. If that's not reason enough to buy this Epic Collection, it also features the build-up and wedding of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. This is just an all-around classic Spider-man collection set during the last golden age for the character. Must-buy. 5 stars.
