MerrellWomen's Moab 2 Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot

Best hiking boots ever.
Took out of box and immediately went on a 12 mile hike. NO break-in necessary, boots were perfect in all aspects! I have a very narrow foot and these size 8's were true to size, functional, lightweight, waterproof and breathable and couldn't be more comfortable. Tried Danner, LaSportiva's, hokas as well with "try before you buy" and these by FAR were my first choice from the beginning. Will be buying multiple pairs for the future. VERY happy with this Merrell product!

Comfortable 1st time wearing
I am so pleased with these hiking boots. I’m going on a big adventure in October and wanted to make sure I had my new boots broken in. Well the first time I wore them I couldn’t believe how comfortable they were! I can wear them for hours and there are no blisters or irritations on my feet. I need a wide toe because of foot issues and just about every shoe I try is uncomfortable. These are just wide enough and even has a bit extra for swelling. I also have arch supports, so I remove the ones they come with and put in mine. It works great! These are worth every penny paid! ❤️❤️❤️

Size up + important information I got from the Merrell outlet
I usually wear an 8 in regular shoes and an 8.5 in hiking boots. I ordered an 8.5 but the Moab 2 felt tight plus the toe box felt restrictive. Since there was conflicting information in amazon comments (size up 1/2 size, size up full-size) I decided to go to a Merrell outlet store to figure out the right sizingRight sizing was up 1/2 size above your normal *hiking boot size* . So instead of an 8.5, I needed a 9. Perfect fit. The employee was very knowledgeable and helpful. Here's what you need to know about these boots.1. Merrell makes this model in a non-waterproof style. This one, the waterproof Moab 2, "feels tighter" on the foot she said, than the other model, due somehow to the waterproofing technology used.2. The toe box is smaller in style (tapered) than some of Merrell's other footwear (like the model I link to below), but if you get the right size in Moab 2, it should just take a little bit of breaking in. (Indeed, only part of one day for me.)3. The Moab 2 has a bit of a heel and a shank. That offers extra grip when on slippery slopes. It also has pronounced arch support. My experience of this is my foot feels ever-so-slightly like it's aimed downhill when I am standing on level ground. The employee confirmed it may feel this way. She also said that typically this style of sole fees good to people with medium-to-high arches. (I have a low arch and am somewhat flat-footed.)I would up buying the Moab 2 in a size 9. I like the Vibram sole, pronounced support in the sole, and I want to try something different. My experience of the Moab 2 is I feel sometimes a slight readjustment in my spine and even my hip muscles. It feels ever so slightly sore sometimes, but it may just be stretching those muscles. The employee confirmed the design is to optimize your spine posture. So I figure my other footwear may not have been supporting my frame properly. The employee also showed me a Merrell mid hiking boot that she said people with low arches like. Plus it has a roomy toe box. (The Chameleon 7 Limit) I decided to also buy a pair of those too: https://www.amazon.com/Merrell-Womens-Chameleon-Waterproof-Brindle/dp/B0728C1LNG/I'm happy with my purchases. Thanks, Merrell!

Lightweight, great support and traction, Runs a little hot
I’m an avid hiker and runner who up until now relied on their running sneakers (with an extra pair of socks or two) for even rigorous or wet hikes. I have a high arch and a bone spur on the back of both my heels that make finding shoes very difficult: lack of support leaves my hips and knees aching and the wrong back to the shoe leaves me bloody, so I don’t like to waste time and money if I find something that works ok.This winter, though, I’m planning a hike in icy mountain conditions plus need a new pair of boots for regular snow days in NYC, so decided it was time to bite the bullet. I did a lot of research and picked these to try first and I am so glad I found these! Thank you to all the reviewers here for your help! These are much lighter in weight then I thought they would be. I am somewhere between a 7.5 and 8 in shoes and went with the 8. They fit perfectly: not too snug but not at all loose. It’s hard to describe- they secure around your ankle and then they’re so light, they sort of just gently cradle around your foot. They don’t feel “cushy” like my sneakers but my feet feel supported and are completely protected from feeling the impact of hitting the ground.I took them for an inaugural 6mile hike in the small mountain reservation near my parents house in NJ, without any breaking in. The arch support is great, no aches and pains in my joints or feet. Miraculously no blisters, either. The conditions here are currently unseasonably warm and very humid, with heavy ground cover of wet leaves and pools of mud. The traction on the wet leaves/rocky mountain terrain, even while being pulled by a German Shepherd, was fantastic. I didn’t slip at all and my feet stayed dry. Plus I discovered how nice it is to have some extra ankle support. These boots did run a little hot, which is why I gave four stars. I tend to run hot myself. The good news is that even though they felt a little hot, my feet didn’t sweat (I was sweating otherwise in the warmhumidity). These will be great boots for when the chill comes back and through the winter and early spring for both nature hiking and urban hiking through rain/snow.

Truly waterPROOF, comfortable for wide feet
I have one particularly wide foot and got these to replace my old pair that were busted. I got them in preparation for a cross-country tour of 26 National Parks, and they were great! No blistering, comfortable to walk in, good traction, not too heavy. And they are TRULY waterproof, not just water resistant. I put the waterproof claim to the test in Fern Canyon at Redwoods NP, and even though I waded through running streams that were nearly up to the top of the shoe, I had dry socks at the end. I recommend these for anyone with wide feet. I typically wear a 7.5W but I got an 8W to give some extra room.

Excellent
These definitely are my my favourite bootes. They are perfect for the winter and kept my feet warm. Excellent for people with wide feet like me. Lots of room for my orthotics. Lots of stability. They do have a stiff sole which is good if you have problems with your feet like I do. They wrap around your feet and there is no sliding in the boot . Perfect fit . Definitely recommend
