Probably too wide to use with your MacBook Pro
5 stars because functionally it can read a 256GB microSDXC card just fine, and their customer service is great (offered to send me a replacement item). But if you want to use this in a MacBook Pro, be aware that it will block the other USB-C port next to it.The design is probably self-explanatory from the pictures. The USB-C plug is uncovered. The USB-A plug has a hinged cover. To insert a microSD card you need to flip up the cover and actually insert the microSD card into the bottom part of the USB-A plug. A microSD card could just as easily fit in the top half of the USB-A connector, so you need to take care to slide it into the correct side. There is a sliding switch on the bottom of the USB-A plug which will eject the microSD card.If you have the Apple-brand power cable and just want to plug your MacBook Pro into power, you can probably squeeze this into the other USB-C port next to the power cable — as long as you insert it the right direction so that the weird lanyard knob sticking out the side isn't in the way. The Apple power cable seems really skinny compared to most USB-C plugs. But most cables aren't going to fit next to it. Once you plug in the card reader, there is about 1 mm of clearance for anything you want to plug into the other port.

Works and Is Very Convenient for Dash Cam
I've had one of these adapters for a year and a half. It was very useful to keep on my key chain. The main use for me is when there is something I want to get off my dash cam in my car, I just pop the card out of the camera, pop it into this adapter, and plug it into my phone. Minutes later, I have the footage I was looking for. What's nice about this one is that it has USB C AND regular USB so I could transfer to my phone or the PC.I just noticed my first one is broken; I'm sure it was something I did with my keys. I'm ordering a new one.

Good product, bad instructions.
I've got a few items from Nekteck, and they are all pretty well made. This feels pretty decent, but only time will tell. Not sure if the plastic cover will hold up, as it seems the first to go. Second; the housing is made from some standard PET plastic, without any glass reinforcing. So the loop for a lanyard or keyring will probably break at some point if kept on a keyring. Lastly, find yourself a USB-C cover cap, to keep dust from entering the device. Should last a while, so as long as you aren't too hard on it.Now, the instructions: The images show you putting in the Micro SD card with the label facing up to the 2 holes in the USB-A side of the device. That is the opposite. Turn the Micro SD over so that the label is facing the other side. That was annoying.

GREAT purchase
This device does exactly what you bought it for....it works flawlessly....there is one downside to it....it is small....small enough that it came out of my pocket without me knowing...probably when I was taking some change out....I lost it and a Sandisk 512gb micro sd card.....I have searched the great wide web and this device is not available....at a reasonable price...anywhere....Ebay has it for 45 bucks....ummm...no....if you are lucky enough to find this in stock....grab it....then please send me a message to let me know where I can get another one.....Come on Nekteck.....make more....please!

Clever design, works perfectly.
My new phone has USB-C so my old micro USB stick would not work. I bought this as an interesting replacement. It is not a memory stick, but an SD-Card reader. It has a very clever design where the card inserts into the reader where the plastic key that prevents inserting the USB stick backward would go. I have been using this reader as a memory stick for over 6 months without any problems. I am using a Samsung EVO 256G card with it. It works in my phone and it works in any PC I have plugged it into.

I really like the device
I really like the device. It does as it says. I chose this item over another was for the ability to have it on me at all times with the keyhole ring that is built into it. Sadly, it is made of plastic and mine broke, right after the return window closed. The company has great customer service as well as an 18 month warranty and replaced it immediately after I notified them of the problem. You can't ask for much more than that. Great product, great customer service, and a great warranty. Don't hesitate, buy it now!!!

Great device
This is tiny and space efficient, but works great for both USB C and A. I bought this for the USB C on my phone (Moto Z2 Force) but then my laptop card reader broke so I use the USB A on there. Works flawlessly for both. After a lot of use and heavy travel, one of these went out on me and I had to buy a replacement. But I bought 2 (for home and travel) and both are still going strong.

Splendid Micro SD Reader
This little gadget is exactly what I needed for portability. It does exactly what it advertises, allowing one to view and/or download photos or videos between devices. I encountered difficulty transferring large, hi-res videos from my laptop to other devices, due to file size restrictions. This device makes it easy to view and transfer those large video files directly on my cellphone. The only potential issue is that the micro SD reader quickly gets quite hot when docked into my cellphone or laptop. The heat does slightly slow its operation but does not cause any major malfunction. I will be purchasing a other soon.Great purchase; affordably priced.
