Hair shaving sharp on 3V...
Don't get confused, this stone won't cut the vanadium carbides. What it did for my Bark River Bushcrafter (3V) is get it sharp enough to easily shave the hair off my arms. BUT I can feel the jaggedness and get lots of red bumps. Even after standard (non-diamond) stropping that jagged feeling is still there. I'm not claiming this knife is a replacement for high quality diamond stones. I'm claiming its plenty good enough for 3V knives meant for bushcrafting. A couple levels of diamond stropping compounds will bring you the rest of the way.Simply a joy to use, wonderful feel, fast sharpening, slow wearing, etc. It's good. Also, on 1095 steel (Tops BOB & Tanimboca), I got them both to a hair popping, butter smooth shaving sharp polish. Best stones I've ever used.

Puts a mirror polish on the blade
Hi, I am just an amateur home sharpener, although i do my neighbors and co-worker blades to stay in practice. I have 3 other stones I use when I sharpen with - my favorite brand is Chosera - 700, 1000, 3000. I finally got this Naniwa 8000 grit stone and it does make a huge difference. The stone feels very smooth but when you use it, you can see the metal coming off (the grey metal floating above the stone in the water) so you know that it is working. Looking at a blade, you can see that the edge becomes mirror like after using the 8000 grit. I generally finish with a leather strop and I think the knives are sharper, and the edges look fantastic. I am very happy I bought this stone.

Great finishing stone
Excellent finishing stone. Tried it on a ZwilkingHenckels chefs knife after sharpening on a KING 1000/6000 KDS. Mirror finish on the edge with a few passes. It does remove a lot more material than my KITAYAMA 8000. Great results - If I had to buy one 8000 stone I would go w the KITAYAMA because I like its silky butter touch but this one gets to results much faster - nothing bad to report, wonderful stone!

Great but be wary
Great stone But prone to cracking I didnt even soak them just simply sprayed them from a spritzer after 2 weeks hairline cracks throughout the stone. Exchanged for a new one and that was hasn't cracked and has been 3 weeks with use almost everyday. Itll put a screaming edge on your knife. I usually follow 800 3k 8k jump with phenomenal results. Perfect edge for my sushi knives which are hard used everyday. I use to stop at 3k but 8k edge is super addicting once you get the smoothness and non toothy edge. Overall I wish this stone was more durable especially for the price point. But for grit and sharpening feel I give a 8 out of 10. It feels like a 10k stone but almost no feedback so hopefully your sharpening technique is on point.

Incredible Stone!
This is a GREAT stone. Especially when just starting out sharpening, just splash some water on it and you're good to go. The only gripe I've had with it is that it is glued to the base. I like to air my stones out for several days to dry before storing, and that is impossible with this stone. Also, I would recommend buying a leather strop and some diamond spray/paste to go along with it for a cleaner, sharper edge, but it isn't really necessary. I've gotten RAZOR sharp knives off of just a 1k and this stone. Clean enough to shave arm hair no problem.

Great value
I just splashed and went..Very smooth with some feedback.I finish with this stone after a 5000 grit..It does polish and I can tell a difference in sharpness, slight but it's there..Too me,very much worth the price and effort..Good service and shipping from Amazon..Bob

The best fine grit whetstone I will ever need.
An awesome addition to my collection of whetstones. This is the finest grain I will ever need and will be used to put a mirror finish on some of my knives. The stone is well made and firmly attached to a plastic base. I expect it to last a lifetime.

If it only didn't crack for no reason.
I had bought this some time ago and only used it a couple of time to test it out. Puts a beatiful finish on the blade and it is super fun to use this stone. After the testing I put it away until I finished off a cheaper 8k stone. About 2 week ago I began using it on an almost daily basis and when I last pulled it out for use I noticed it was cracked all around the stone. I don't understand since it was dried and cleaned and without it being dropped or abused in anyway. I really enjoy the experience of using this stone but finding all the cracks on it is upsetting.
