Keep Your Brain Alive: 83 Neurobic Exercises to Help Prevent Memory Loss and Increase Mental Fitness

Simple and Profound
The fun and easy brain exercises found in Keep Your Brain Alive offer quick ways to increase the connections in your brain. Try them for a week or so. They work. But for me, the real treasure in this book is that it renewed my awareness of how often we humans operate on auto-pilot, and how disabling one sense can engage others . . . thereby creating vital new connections. I'll close my eyes more often to get a more complete read on a person, a situation, and improve my brain's ability to access critical areas of information in the process.Contemporary studies indicate that people with more education, people who've used their brains more often and in more depth (i.e., people with more "connections"), can overcome the effects of the plaques and tangles of Alzheimer's disease (at least for a while) because the brain is able to rewire or reroute information around the afflicted area. That alone makes this fun little book, a quick and easy read, worth more than the price of admission.Highly recommended!Phyllis Staff, Ph.D.author:"How to Find Great Senior Housing," and"128 Ways to Prevent Alzheimer's and Other Dementias"

Now if it only works!
What would you think of a strategy of making your daily routines more interesting and improving your memory and mental capabilities at the same time? It's called neurobics and it is all about exercising different, less-used parts of the brain, re-growing brain cells, and reconnecting brain circuitry in the process. The idea is to approach your dull, daily routines with fresh ideas and to look for ways of including all of your senses. Dr. Katz says that a lot of what we do routinely, including TV watching, is brain-deadening and almost sub-conscious. By spicing up our routines, we can increase our mentality; at least, that is what the book is about.I thought the book was interesting and it did get me thinking. Some of the ideas are worthy and others may be impractical, for me anyway. Being more social is a great idea! Brushing my teeth left-handed is feasible, showering with my eyes closed is doable, but putting Velcro on my gear shift or eating my supper in silence with my family is not. But I like the idea of creativity, and the book gave me some ideas to start from. Now if it only works!

Keep Your Brain Alive
Just as the book implies: A No Brainer Brain Exerciser without the Smoothies, veggies, garlic and blenders. The concept is a series of mind exercises so simple even I could understand it. 83 Neurobic Exercises. Some years ago I received and subsequently saved a letter from a fellow Marine with whom I served in the Pacific. It is a two page handwritten letter dated and signed simply: Jerry. I kept it with the thought of answering him one day except I couldn't recall his last name and by the time I again discovered the letter there was no return envelope. All hope was lost.I struggled to recall Jerry's last name hoping that perhaps I might recall it and pursue him on Face Book or simply on Google. Didn't happen.I began to read Keep Your BRAIN ALIVE and thought it had some merit, following the examples of the exercises, all 83 of them. I awakened suddenly from a brief nap, watching Faux News will do that to most people. ELLISON .... Jerry Ellison ! It all came to me in a flash. Jerry Ellison; our duty stations, his home town, everything! Fantastic This book is amazing!I spent the next three days trying to find the book; sitting in my recliner I suddenly realized where I put it and then it dawned on me: it must be the recliner. But I did find the book where I left it.Bottom line: Never lose a good book, you may need it one day.Cheers

Any help welcome
An interesting book but not too many new ideas. Nevertheless, it is good to have these hints all in one place. I gave it as a gift to an 85 year-old and he says he enjoys it...but what else do you say about a gift???!!!

Keep Your Brain Alive
A very easy and informative read. Purchase motovation was for use by my wife and myself in our lives after 70 and as a resource for our daughter who experienced a closed head brain injury in an automobile accdident. The author provided both well documented and easy to understand and follow exercises that are at the same time enjoyable to perform.
