Adults find it as much fun as the children
We bought this for our grandson’s first birthday. Right from the outset he was interested in it and responded well to various sounds and flashing lights. The parents and grandparents also enjoyed playing with it.

Nice little toy
We've had a few xylophones in our house but this is the only one that teaches you the tunes to play. My wife can somehow just bash out a tune by magic but I need some guidance. This is a really easy way to get you playing basic nursery rhymes - never mind the kids! For a Leapfrog toy, its nice to see them including some elements of wood, so it's not all standard plastic. The lights are easy to follow to learn a new song. My only criticism would be the constant voice chipping in to encourage you to play, if you just want to play with it without learning one of the pre-recorded tracks. For that, you'd be better with a bog-standard xylophone. At £23 I think this is quite reasonable for a Leapfrog toy - and not just for kids.

Good quality musical toy for toddlers
This toy is the usual top quality build that I have come to expect from Leapfrog and it is ready to play from the box with the 2 x AA batteries required already installed. The tambourine and xylophone are a good size and both have nice chunky carrying handles,There are two double-sided music sheets with songs that my granddaughter sings along to at nursery, so they are instantly recognisable to her when I play them on the xylophone. The music sheets can be cleverly stored in the back of the tambourine when not in use.It takes quite a hard hit with the mallet to make the keys sound, but my granddaughter loves this part of the toy and it is great for assisting with hand eye coordination. Her favourite mode is following the lights and hitting each key as it lights up. My granddaughter initially tried hitting an individual key at a height but has now learnt to keep her hand closer to the keyboard for a more direct hit. There has not been as much interest in the tambourine, although my granddaughter does like to use it as a drum with the mallet. This is a very well-made musical toy, but the voice is quite irritating and often interrupts when my granddaughter is just trying to hit the keys without playing a specific tune, although the voice is British sounding and the words are spoken clearly.I think that the current price of £23.00 is good and this would be a great educational and fun gift for any toddler.

Excellent toy for a great price.
Great educational musical toy for toddlers! It has a variety of settings but the one our little one loves most seems to be the mimicking one where she follows the lights to copy the song - I’ll forever be dreaming in twinkle twinkle little star and the muffin man. She just loves the lights! Great for familiarising with the tunes and refining motor skills/dexterity.Love the FSC sustainable wood on it too, a great finish and a long way from the way toys looked or were made when I was younger! It’s that fun daddy even wants one now!Verdict:It’s a great educational fun toy for the current competitive price of £23.00. 5* all round. Recommended.

A lovely 2 in 1 toy
A colourful battery operated xylophone by Leapfrog. There's also a tambourine that slots into the xylophone and can be removed fully to be played with properly which I didn't realise at first. The xylophone is great for coordination and learning numbers, colours etc. It plays songs and each key lights up for you to press to make the musical tune. For example twinkle twinkle little star. It comes with a thin plastic beater/drumstick but you can also press the keys with your fingers. Lots of flashing lights and keeps my daughter entertained.

Nice quality
This is a nice quality toy with two main uses, to play the Xylophone and bash the Tamborine. Both make lots of noise and there are double sided cards with songs to sing/play along toThere is the usual annoying voice that talks about colours and numbers, but my granddaughter loves itRecommended

Well made toy, voice encouragements are a bit intrusive
Leapfrog are a well established brand known largely for plastic electronics-based toys, so the fact that this engaging musical instrument set incorporates some lightly varnished wooden elements is a bit of a departure for them. I like the inclusion of some more sustainable (the wood is FSC certified) elements, and think this looks smart - with both pieces at the ends of the xylophone and the centre of the accompanying tambourine made from wood. The xylophone toy comes with a set of batteries (2xAA) pre installed, so this can be used directly from the box. This has modes to practice number recognition, follow lights to recreate a tune, and play along with a backing track. The xylophone has a couple of different sounds, one xylophone-like, and one more like a glockenspiel. Instructions are supplied by a female voice speaking with a British accent.Noisy toys are always a big hit, but for me this one lacks simple, unaccompanied playing features (except for the tambourine) and the spoken directions and encouragements are perhaps a bit intrusive, with repeated exhortations to “tap a key and let’s play” and similar.
