Q: Is this good for home use?

Yes !!! I bought it for a cruise but it would definitely work for home

Q: What is the oven mitt for? Is the steamer hot to hold?

No it is not hot to hold . I didn’t use it but I guess could be used in opposite hand in case steam touched it

Q: Will it work for curtains?

Yes, provided they are a stream friendly fabric. This is an awesome steamer and out does not require a motor to push the steam, it boils at high temp which cause the pressure. Nice product. Can be used to stream clean stainless steel and porcelain too.

Q: At what temperatures does the steam come out?

Haven't measured the temperature, but it's very hot and can burn your skin, so it's suggested to keep hands and face away from opening as it's heating and after it's fully heated and to allow it to cool. It also drips a bit from the opening, so hold.it away from you as you use it. Would also suggest, I'd you're using it for sugar, wrap the end in a cloth to catch the drip or move it quickly.
