I would recommend this book to anyone striving to understand prayer and to improve prayer life. Very scriptural based and practicals are so helpful in spiritual growth.

All of Phillip Keller's books that I have read are enjoyable and worth the time. The treatment of the Lord's Prayer is devotional, but has some scholarship as well. It would be a good book for someone to use as a resource for preaching or teaching on the Lord's prayer. I used it as one of my resources to create and teach 10 lessons on the model Prayer to women inmates in a local prison. Good reading for one's soul and good background for creating curriculum.

I first encountered the writings of W. Phillip Keller when a friend lent me a copy of his book "A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23". It was a book that had a profound impact on me not only because of it unique, factual approach but because of Keller's deep belief in the love of God for each of us. So I was interested in giving a look at some of his other writings. " A Layman Looks at the Lord's Prayer" is in the same vein as the book mentioned earlier. Keller has a simple almost conversational tone to his writing, is solidly scripture based, and takes you even deeper into the mystery of God's love for each of us. Often when I read a book, I like to check on the background and experience of the author. Born in Kenya, Keller has lead a most interesting and well rounded life. He was an accomplished agrologist, a world class photographer, a field naturalist, conservationist, as well as a lay minister. In short, his writings stem from a very varied background and knowledge. Yet, his writings are definitely that of a humble, simple soul with a deep love for God. If you are looking for a little different approach to the "Our Father" then this book is for you. I also strongly suggest picking up a copy of "A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23" by the same author. You won't regret it!

This book was so helpful in clarifying the lesson line by line and providing guidance which is purposeful . It provided a resource which will be used again and again. I am thankful to have read it.

This is an excellent study on the Lord's Prayer and how it impacts our personal lives today. There is nothing more important in life that having a personal relationship with the God of the universe and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Our first step is by receiving Jesus as our personal Savior and Lord. We realize our relationship to Him is like a child to his parent and this opens the door to the Throne Room of God so that we can come to Him 24/7 knowing He hears us and answers our prayers -- WHAT A PRIVILEDGE! I highly recommend this book to everyone.
