Amazing Value and Performance in a Compact Package
Wow! I purchased this NAS based on a quick review of price and performance, and I have since been writing Facebook posts singing the praises of all of the features of this amazing piece of tech! For example, I happened to have a QNAP DAS enclosure TR-004 that I could connect to this bad boy, and it turned into an 8-bay NAS because it detected the extra 4 bays! So simple and reduces e-waste and adds value!I have been enjoying this NAS for the past couple of weeks, especially since I recently upgraded my home network to 2.5 gig ethernet, which this NAS supports. If you’re looking for an inexpensive NAS that’s absolutely punching above its weight class, this is it! This experience has turned me into a QNAP fanboy for sure, and no, this review was NOT SPONSORED. - I just REALLY LOVE everything about this experience with my QNAP NAS!

Kind of sort of does what it's supposed to, but not really.
I'm not a mega nerd, but then again, I'm not a person that doesn't know how to operate electronics. I'm somewhere in the middle ground there. This thing is slow and the. interface sucks User support is almost nonexistent. Everything is online and it tells you to just try it that way. I've got it up and running, but it's not really operating the way I want it to or to its capacity. I've owned different nas before. and this one sucks. Would I do it again, No.

Works great for basic+ NAS
If you're just using it as storage/backup/streaming videos this is perfect. It has a lot of options and apps but it struggles to run too much. I wanted to set it up to do radarr, sonarr, prowlarr, and download torrents with a vpn. I got that all running with docker and Container Station but it kept running out of memory and the services kept stopping. Similarly, you can install plex server on this but I'm 99% certain it would struggle and buffer constantly. It's a fun toy with a lot of flexibility but it doesn't have the hardware to follow through imo. It's a great device for the price range, just don't expect it to do things it's not designed for.

It ended in the trash where it belongs
I received this piece of garbage on August 1st, 2023, the configuration is plain simple and straightforward, however I confronted some issues during the Pool and Volume creation.I worked for over 18 years on an IT Department, not an expert but I used to manage one or two servers, I used to be the Webmaster so I had some server for test, I have never experience so much frustration as with this little guy.I managed to set another Administrator account, and my sister’s account, managed to set a quota to my sister’s space, create the main folders of my pcs Pictures, Documents, Downloads, Video, Music, map the drive to all my devices and change the folders location pointing the NAS, everything was great for about 4 days, suddenly I was listening to music and the drive disconnected, the only way was to hard shutdown and turn it on again, this was the situation during this time, every single days.I notice that a firmware was available 5.1.2.2533, so I upgraded, and the real nightmare begun. The drive was showing Abnormal Sector Count warning, I ran the check for bad cluster (wasted 7.5 hours), and then the warning changed to a red w/r sign error, I was upset, I took out the drive, connected on my PC delete all the partitions and format, I did not care about losing some data (I had a backup process to an external hard drive), and run the check and fix for bad cluster, another 7.5 hours, no error was found, the drive function well on the PC with no errors.Put it back and start the tedious process again, worked for about one hour, the warning sign is still present, then the disk disconnected with no hard drive led activity. I have some hard drives, so I tried all of them and they simply keep disconnecting.I also tried downgrading the firmware, no luck.I have spent the last days troubleshooting this piece of garbage, so it ends up against the floor and in the trash where it belongs. If you buy this keep an eye on the health of the hard drive and be careful with the new firmware (5.1.2.2533), don’t know if it is buggy, but my experience was atrocious.Update 1:I Forgot to mention that I have tried to troubleshoot connected directly with the ethernet cable, went through the configuration process with various drives (all healthy without any warnings or errors), but the led drive indicator went off and disconnected, sometimes during the configuration the drives lost connection and could not continue. Also did a factory format and reset.Since day 1, the NAS was connected in a UPS battery, my Router uses an external fan and its running cold to the touch.I am still testing the Seagate IronWolf hard drive (with a Sata Docking Station) , I have copied all of my music gallery and made a partition for Steam Games, the drive still shows the warning (see HW Info pic), THIS DRIVE CAME FAULTY, maybe it was not new who knows, if it fails, (eventually will do), I won’t lose any important data. So, I’ve received not only a defective hard drive, but also the NAS.I have tried to troubleshoot the best way I could. I’ll get another brand later, will report.

Delightful performance, excellent value
This is my third home NAS box in maybe 20 years, and it's light years ahead of the old NAS devices in terms of capabilities, software and design. Highly recommended, I think it's fully as good as Synology and better value.I have 2x8 TB mirrored drives in this, and I'm primarily using is as a media server at home.

Great NAS for home use
This is a great little NAS for home use and is my second QNAP NAS. Very quiet, you can hear the hard drives spin up and seek, but the fan is very quiet and hardly noticeable. With 2.5 and 1.0 GbE connections there is no need to have it so close if the sound bothers you and has great connections speeds. Easy to set up, but you do need to understand networking a little, otherwise stay away from a NAS and buy a USB device.

Good for personal home use
Feel slow at some time, not for heavy users. Max transfer speed experienced was 11 Mbps (roughly around 100 mbps). Haven't used Plex yet. Using 2.5" hhd for around 1.5 months now. Working fine for now. 2gb ram is not enough & ram is not expandable. Havey task use 94% CPU processor & 75% ram, extra ram is used from sweep storage (8gb) which make it slow when doing heavy task. Being a bigner little tricky to use. Overall good compared to price. Deducted 1 star for not adding Ram extension slot.
