Diving into the Digital Brain
In a world overflowing with information, "Building A Second Brain" (BASB) offers a refreshing approach to managing the deluge. What struck me most was its everyday relevance. While the methods are undoubtedly a boon for professional settings, the beauty lies in how seamlessly they integrate into personal spheres.Tiago Forte introduces the PARA system, a concept I've eagerly adopted. This year, I've taken to Notion, organising my thoughts and embracing the BASB philosophy of diving in without waiting for the "perfect" system. It's a liberating shift from my previous mindset, where I'd often get bogged down seeking an impeccable setup. BASB emphasises a dynamic system, one that evolves and adapts with you. However, it wasn't all smooth sailing. At times, Forte's deep dives into personal anecdotes felt a tad excessive, pulling me away from the core message. This is the primary reason I'm holding back that one star.Yet, the strengths of BASB far outweigh this minor gripe. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking to streamline their information management and avoid the pitfalls of capturing the unnecessary. And for those curious about my favourite takeaways, check out my highlights on Goodreads!4 out of 5 - A transformative approach to information, with just a hint of TMI.

Actionable and Essential in Modern Life
The most useful book of 2023 bar none: I built a second brain for a free account with Notion, and sorted my digital life out. The key principle of the book is PARA (Projects, Area, Resources, Archive) - this acronym serves the purpose of working only with what is actionable now, and leaving other resources for later. You'll become a powerhouse of organised and actionable knowledge regardless of industry with this framework. Dive in!

Good read
This book thoroughly explains how to organise your work and life by providing a comprehensive system of capturing notes. It also encourages the usage of this system for creativity and organising projects in a meaningful way. I cannot wait to put things in action as I am a traditional notes taker - hoarder.I recommend this book for those seeking personal management, growth and ways to improve their daily lives.

Good information, though the stories can be a little fluffy.
You could probably skip a lot of the book just to get to the meat of PARA and CODE, but for some people the stories of other successful people using systems give that "penny drop" moment to really implement the knowledge. Overall a good book and probably the only one of Tiago's that you actually need.

Insightful Overview of multiple productivity and knowledge management concepts
Overall the Building a Second Brain provides good insight into multiple productivity and knowledge management concepts. I am a big fan of the simple distillation down to a few 4 letter acronyms. CODE and PARA make it accessible to everyone, regardless of your experience in either field.I’ve completed some further reading into the field on Progressive Summarisation and have already found that concept to be beneficial to my notes. Overall this is a must read for anyone interested in the productivity or PKM fields. You will benefit most from this if you are just starting out but it is a good refresher for anyone with more experience!

Finding the juicy, useful information…
I’ve tried many productivity methods looking to find one that fits my preferred workflow and PARA comes closest. I’m excited to put all of Tiago’s methods into practice.Unfortunately, I found this book to be another where the juicy, useful information is in the first few chapters hidden in lengthy and unnecessary stories. I read and understood the theory of PARA and second brain within an hour.I would recommend PARA and the idea of building a second brain, I would have preferred to get into the detail more and fewer user case examples.

Changed my life.
This is the book that is getting me to a place where I can finish my PhD, become good at the new job I got (that I have no qualifications for), improve my health&fitness, and who knows what else along the line. I’m not a self help book kind of person, and this is not a self help kind of book. I already had all the knowledge I needed to transform my life, but Tiago Forte had the visionary idea of a system that now allows me to effectively use it.

Arrived in good condition
Book arrived in good condition, although there was a sticky thing attached to the back and I couldn't remove it. I decided to let it be so I wouldn't ruin the book.

Captivate you throughout, you transform to new at the end
from my experience, usually non fiction books are boring. But this book entices me with lots of interesting facts and stories. I think it happens when an author writes a book from the heart. You see new avenues of productivity by eliminating biases and myths.I recommend this book to those who are not familiar with book reading but want to enhance productivity. For others, it is a good treat.
