It's name means "happyness in chance" , it's origin is linked with zen philosophy and ceremony of tea. It is based on a thermal schock. Pieces are pulled from the kiln when it's about 1800 F° with some pliers and that makes glaze crackle. They are then placed on some combustible materials like sawdust which catches fire and smokes. Smoke colors unglazed parts and cracks, revealing their pattern which is always different. It symbolizes that each instant is unique and acceptation of what happens.
