Does the necklace lay flat on the neck

Yes, absolutely. It's a nice looking necklace.

I'm not sure. I have showered in it but I didn't soak it.

Is the color a fake yellowish/gold color or does it look like real gold?

I just got it so I don't know how it will look with much wear, but for now it's bright and shiny and looks very close to real, new gold. It is significantly lighter than a solid gold chain so it won't feel exactly the same.
