We need more of these!
Great textbook! There needs to be more of these textbooks for all languages focusing on a regional dialogs. When I lived in Japan, not only did this help me understand lots of comedy on TV (comedians tend to use kansai-ben),but also using this book allowed me to speak enough kansai-ben to at least make it looked like I had lived down south.Since the intonation of the dialect is so different from standard Japanese, if there was a CD to go with the text, it would be perfect.

Excellent
No Academic Japanese here, only real world language from the Kansai region. I have forgotten so much since I lived in Osaka, that I am actually using it to study before I move back 38 years later.Easier than any academic book I have ever read and 100 times more pratical.

Good but much missing
Maybe I expected too much from a book that was only ~$10 but it wasn't very clear on several very important topics in the book and too often resorted straight to simple conversations. Although this was a downfall, overall the book was a very enjoyable read, and was fairly informative. I hate the fact that it uses romanization, but since it always had the hiragana/kanji right below it, I will not complain too much :) overall a good book for intermediate Japanese students that want a very basic guide to speaking (and understanding) one of the more colorful dialects of Japan.

Great information on the Kansai region!
If you study Japanese and haven't come across Kansai-ben speaking people, then I would suggest reading this. This book is very well put together and well written, though there are a few typos. I wouldn't recommend this book to people who haven't studied Japanese before. If you are new to the Japanese language, purchase this book later, after you've learned Hyojungo.

Great!
One of the simplest (and only) books on the Kansai dialect. I would highly recommend it for anyone who has even a passing interest in learning it - you'll see it on television in Japan, hear it all over, and it's something you'll need to know if you plan on living in any of the areas where it's spoken. It's very well done!

Best Kansai-ben book out there
I'm a college student about to study abroad in the Kansai area and I was looking for a book that would help me to better understand the local dialect. This book is very well laid out and clearly explains the differences between standard Japanese and Kansai dialect and how to use them. There are plenty of examples that help the reader along the way.

Another naff book with more Roumaji than content
Literally the worst book I have ever purchased. The roumaji actually PRECEDES everything else, so you never get a chance to enjoy reading what little Japanese is actually in this book.

Interesting
I bought this to try and understand some of the things that my girlfriend says when she gets angry and slips back into Osaka-ben. Now i'm only pretending when I tell her that I don't understand what she's saying! It's a good book, easy to read, with plenty of content and example conversations to add context to everything you learn.

Interessante e chiaro
Libro interessante per chi si accinge a trascorrere molto tempo nella zona del Kansai e vorrebbe capire il significato di certe espressioni che fanno sorgere la domanda "Ma son parole giapponesi che non conosco o è semplicemente Kansai-ben?". E per la maggior parte delle volte, sì, è Kansai-ben.Ovviamente bisogna saper parlare Giapponese, non è un libro di grammatica Giapponese. (ovviamente bisogna comprendere bene anche l'inglese).

Helpful!
I learned a lot with this book. You will not be a master of Kansai dialect when you finish it but you will learn a lot and understand the most common expressions, especially in Osaka-ben.

Aussi simpa qu'utile :)
Un très bon ouvrage, qui couvre avec détails le dialecte du Kansai. Pour les japonisants confirmés.
