Stabilizes water temps, prevents evaporation
I have a unique setup: a sitting pool fashioned from a 300 gallon Rubbermaid agricultural stock tank, for which I wanted a cover to lay on top of the water to prevent debris and evaporation (we live in the high desert at 5,000 feet elevation so evaporation is a big deal here). Enter the Hot Tub Thermal Cover. I placed the cover over the top of the tub and used a Sharpie to mark where to cut it. I cut it using heavy duty scissors and didn't find it difficult to cut even with the foam at nearly a half inch thick. We have an in-tub skimmer for which I keep a paving stone on to prevent it from floating which sticks an inch or so out of the water, so I allowed this Thermal Cover to cover that, and then placed another paving stone on top of the thermal cover to prevent wind from carrying this cover off. The first thing I noticed was how the yellow hue of the cover turned white after having been exposed to the sun for only about two hours. That caused me worry about whether it will hold up in the strong UV of the sun. This is the only cover for our sitting pool. It is in direct sunlight for about 10 hours a day. It sits directly atop brominated water with other chemicals. The temperature at night in the summer drops down between 49-63° F and the passively solar heated water stays at 75-78°F with the cover on overnight. In the daytime (summer) with the cover on, the water temps stay in the mid to upper 80's and stay about 5-8°F cooler than the air temperature. Nearly two months later, the cover is holding up well and hasn't broken down in the sun or become brittle. The foam is still flexible and maneuverable. I am tickled about this purchase because it does exactly what I need it to do for our little makeshift sitting pool, and I didn't have to break the bank to do it, plus it feels totally custom because of the ease to trim it to fit our uniquely shaped tub.

Easy and Smart investment to keep a Spa heated
Great cover, holding up well, and keeping hot tub warmer! Thicker than one I had previously so I think this should last longer! Easy to cut. Fit my 5 person spa with plenty of leftover.

It’s foam!
The product seems to work well, haven’t noticed any change in retaining heat after using it in our hot tub though. The only real benefit I see is keeping your hot tub cover in great shape for a longer time as this sits on the water reducing any steam and water being absorbed into your cover. The foam did come with a major tear in the middle, which was disappointing but the quality of the foam is good.

Not usable - causes water quality issues
The material seems fine for the purpose. It floats and doesn't get waterlogged. It seems to be the same material they make pool noodles from. It is not very flexible at all, which can make it a bit of a hassle to handle. The big problem is I can't use it - it completely ruins the hot tub water quality. The water does not circulate very well with it in place (and there's always some water that will collect on top) and it gets stagnant in just a couple days. It gets a musty smell and I get some slime accumulating on surfaces. I feel like it has to be shocked every single time I use it if I keep this floating cover in place. I have taken it out and am not using it any more. I would not recommend to anyone for use in a hot tub as a result. Note I am using chlorine. It may not be as noticeable if I was using bromine. I would return it if I could, but it is massive and you have to cut it to get it to fit in the hot tub, so I don't feel it is really returnable.

Does the job well
Our hot tub is is 68" x 68" and this cover, which is 3/8" thick, cut to fit easily. We have been very satisfied with this cover and it is very light and easy to maneuver on and off but stiff enough not to flop around as much as our last one. I do not know the r value but it seems to keep the heat in. We have it in an interior room so we don't use any other cover. We have had ours for a couple of years and it is holding up well. It was easy to cut to fit our tub. As good as others we used in the past but I wish it came in a better color -- like blue!

Great for colder weather
I cut this to fit my hot tub. I live in very cold weather - negative degrees this last week and my power went out for about 12 hours. I really think this helped keep the heat in during the power outage - It only went down 9 degrees in that timeframe. It doesn’t seem to be running as much / working as hard to keep it hot - so helpful with the utility bills.
