Solid Craftsmanship, Outstanding Customer Service, and Great Value
I am not an expert on Ukulele's, but I do own three of them. Each one has its unique value in terms of sound, presentation, and utility to a song. I bought this one because I wanted a cutaway as I am teaching myself primarily fingerstyle techniques. As such, I love classical which can be challenging at times do to the use of scales which range across several octaves and therefore a broad range from lower notes to high ones. The cutaway helps me to manage these scales easier. The Ukulele is a well-made, uses good wood that produces a great tone no matter where I am on the scale. I have used the company's customer service several times primarily through email and their responses have always been timely, beyond my expectation in terms of results. I wish more company's follow their model for being committed to an excellent customer experience. It can connect to an amplifier, but I am not a public musician anymore but do send a lot of time on composing music. Therefore, it can have a benefit when connecting to my DAW software and hardware for recording. The Ukulele comes with good action where it counts, but if I had my choice, I would prefer a little lower on the frets towards the upper end of the scale. It doesn't affect my ability to play or does it hard to press down on the strings but when you're playing faster scales towards 16th or faster notes like in some traditional Irish and Old English tunes it can make a difference. This was my first purchase of a Ukulele although I have owned guitars for years and so knew what to look for in an instrument. Would I recommend it to another, absolutely without hesitation! The three pillars of sound; wood, quality of construction, and strings are well represented in this instrument. I would rate this of medium depth in terms of the build. It is not a slim, it is certainly not like a dreadnaught guitar, but falls somewhere between. I was looking for one like this as I live in a small home with my wife and son where not everyone wants to hear me practice as I come up to speed on this instrument. Ending this, I will also say once I had the instrument for about a month it stayed in tune and didn't fall off by more than a quarter way down from where it should be if in tune. That's good and speaks well to the strings and nuts used on this instrument. When I get better on the instrument, I will post a couple of tunes so you can hear how it sounds. I hope this helps anyone considering a purchase.

All-around great ukulele
I purchased the tenor cutaway model. Prior to getting it, the only ukulele experience that I had was a soprano Kala Makala that I had been playing for about 4 months. I consider myself an "advanced beginner" player. I can play some scales, several single note songs, several fingerpicking songs, and a few strumming songs but I'm not quite and intermediate player. I was looking for something larger than the Makala so that I could practice longer without getting fatigued. This ukulele solved that issue. I'll start with the bad since the list is short: - Compared to the Makala, the finish is just not as nice. It's not poor but the finish is dull and a little thin. There's some finish residue in the rim of the soundhole where it looked like someone missed a little bit when buffing it after it was sealed. The color is nice and I think if I keep it stored in a dry A/C-controlled house, it'll last a lifetime but it's just not as pristine as it could be. For what I paid, that's okay. - The battery compartment for the tuner is really stiff. A youtube review pointed that out. It came with a battery so I haven't needed to remove the cover. However, when I tried to remove the cover, it felt like I was going to break it. I'll cross that bridge when the battery dies. - Buzzing notes. Other reviews have pointed out that some notes have a buzz to them. There are a few notes where if you don't fret them perfectly, they'll buzz. The same could be said for all notes on all ukes but on certain notes, this ukulele has noticeably less forgiveness for poor fretting. Those are my only complaints. The good: - It sounds like an uke. As a beginner, I'm no critic of tone. However I can confidently say it sounds like a ukulele. I think anyone looking for this price-range ukulele is looking for an instrument that simply sounds like an ukulele and this will satisfy that requirement. - The strings hold their tuning after they get set. It does take about a half dozen to a dozen sessions before the strings settle in but when they do, they sound great. This was my same experience with my Makala, and I think it's typical for all ukuleles. - The strap and strap studs do what they are supposed to. I do a lot of practice while standing and pacing around my house. It's perfect for that. - The built-in tuner works. I have an accurate tuner that I've used on my other instruments for years. When I tuned the uke the first few times, I used both the built-in and my trusty ol' tuner. The built-in tuner was consistent with my old one. I have not used the second tuner that the ukulele comes with. There's no point. - The electric pickup, volume knobs, and equalizer works. I use it with my Roland Micro Cube. With a little reverb, it has a really soulful sound. I didn't think the equalizer would be necessary but for some reason, the sound doesn't come out of the amp with the correct tone. The equalizer corrects that. With the amp, this instrument sounds like something that I'd expect to hear in a live performance at a bar or coffee shop. I think overall it's a great uke for a total beginner looking to pick up a new instrument, as well as an advanced beginner looking to advance their playing to the next level. I've been playing on it nonstop since I got it 2 weeks ago. If I ever wanted to busk or to play in a coffee shop for money, I think this instrument will get the job done just fine.

Superb product and stellar customer service!
I cannot say enough great things about this Lohanu ukulele and their guarantee. My daughter was excited to learn how to play ukulele and this is the one she picked - and she does her research! The day it came in the mail, we opened the package and tried it out. Of course the first thing we need to do is to tune it and this particular unit has an on-board tuner. We turned it on, but it didn't light up. We found where the batteries were and made sure that they were in correctly and that they worked. Everything was good with the batteries, so that meant something else must be wrong....a defective unit. Our hearts sank! Upon reviewing the documentation that comes with the unit, we found a note stating that they stand behind their product - 100% guaranteed - free replacement - free shipping. So....I thought it's worth a try. I registered at the website and opened a support ticket with them. Here's where this company impressed me even more....within hours they responded. They asked basic troubleshooting questions and asked that we record a video of the problem. We complied. Within a short time, they replied back that they were sorry we were having this problem with the on-board tuner and that sometimes this can happen. They offered to refund 50% of my money and we could use it without the tuner & amp, or we could keep this one as a spare and they'd send another one out immediately. Our intention was to play in church so being able to hook up to the sound system was important to us. I told them I'd like a replacement. In a matter of a couple of days, we had another brand-new ukulele in our hands. The person we were dealing with through the email support even sent us some ukulele chord sheets for worship music! How AWESOME IS THAT? Shortly after receiving the 2nd instrument, we were looking a little closer at how the original ukulele was put together. We identified where there was a wire that needed to be plugged into the pick-up to complete the circuit. I contacted the company again and told them I had found the issue with the original ukulele and offered to send it back to them. They said, 'No, our policy is that if there's something wrong, we replace it.' The instrument has excellent tone, stays in tune well and is fun to play. So now both mom & daughter have ukuleles and just a few weeks had her debut in church. What a fun little instrument! It adds a cheery brightness to our piano/guitar mix of praise music. Thank you Lohanu for your commitment to quality - in both product & support!

EXCELLENT Company, EXCELLENT Sound.
Let me start by saying I LOVE Lohanu! I had a couple problems with the ukuleles I received but they were amazing at listening to me and resolving the issues quickly and effectively. Now I have a beautiful looking and sounding ukulele that competes with my higher end models and is quickly becoming my favorite out of the 6 ukuleles that I own and over the hundreds I've played. I will go into more detail but the gist is this: for this price range you will receive an excellent sounding instrument, but it may need a little love to set it up. Sound: 10/10 Playability: 8/10 (if the frets come with no fret-sprout 10/10) Design: 10/10 Fit and Finish of what I received: 7/10 Ukulele #1 So i received my first one, the Concert Cutaway, everything was great except there was some noticeable fret sprout, which causes the frets to feel sharp or pokey along the edges, and one near the 12th fret was a bit worse than the others. This is a very simple fix usually, you just get the right tool to round the ends of the frets and buff them so they are smooth. The real problem I had, however was the chip in the headstock. it was small, and probably a nothing burger to most people, but to my eyes it was a canyon that i could not look away from. Everything else was great! great sound, great electronics, good craftsmanship, nice choices of wood for each piece... if it wasn't for the chip in the head i would have been perfectly fine with it. So Amazon sent me a replacement of the same model and set me up to return the original with no fuss whatsoever. Ukulele #2 When the second one arrived I was pretty happy with it. Same fret sprout which was too bad, the bridge seemed like it wasn't properly finished as it was a bit rough to the touch where the prior one has been perfect and beautiful, and there was a small blemish in the binding where the neck binding met the cut-away binding. all very simple fixes, just takes time and a steady, patient hand. I decided to keep this one as it sounded and played really nicely in spite of any minor flaws. So Lohanu reached out to me unprompted to make sure that i was happy, i set them pictures of what i found and explained what happened and they took excellent care of me. They listened to what i found and i sent them pictures with descriptions and highlights, they offered me a few different solutions to make it right, ensuring that i was happy with my purchase. I wont go into specifics there but the short version is i got to keep both instruments, which meant i could spread the love to someone else since i didn't need 2 identical ones. The first one, (which is lovingly dubbed "Chip" as a way to name it) I gave to my father for helping me finish the frets as he is a Luthier and i had never done a fret job before. took him about an hour and a half to do both ukulele's frets, fix the rough bridge, and the binding blemish on the 2nd one. Now the one i kept is perfect and "Chip" has a happy home with my father, who was extremely impressed by the quality and sound of these ukuleles after owning thousands of instruments throughout his lifetime. TLDR; I maybe got an unlucky shipment where the frets needed work, but if not, the only things these need are some love, and a fret job, and they will compete with ukuleles 2 or 3 times as expensive. So that's the trade off here. otherwise they have a big, consistent, clear, bell like voice, play very nicely, and sound great plugged in as well!

Mahalo Lohanu!
If you are looking for a nice ukulele bundle I cannot recommend this one enough. There are so many great features for a very reasonable price. The ukulele itself is very well crafted and sounds great. the pattern and company name are etched into the wood and is not painted or a sticker making for a classy look. There is a built in tuner that's very accurate. It also comes with a tuner. I guess I would say, since a tuner is already built in it would be practical to replace the extra one with some felt picks perhaps. That being said though, it does come with picks and a pick holder. There are attachments for a shoulder strap already built in so your ready to go there. The strings are high quality nyglut and you get a separate set as well. I'd say this package comes with everything you need to play the ukuleke. Last but certainly not least, as other reviews have said, the customer support is too notch! I had my ukulele for a couple weeks and saw that the zipper on the gig bag had come off. I was able email them and within minutes they had responded by notifying me they were sending me a new one. Not just a new one, but a better one! I got it in the mail in two days. I am very satisfied with my ukulele, and look forward to playing it for years to come. Thank you Lohanu! Mahalo!

Good looking, good sounding, easy to learn and play, and great service!
I bought the Lohanu Cutaway Tenor Electric/Acoustic ukulele for my 15yo daughter for Christmas this year. When I received it, I examined it carefully for flaws. I found several, but all seemed minor. The most obvious was a cosmetic flaw in the headstock. I sent photos to Lohanu to get their opinion. I expected them to tell me that the instrument was within expected tolerances. At best, perhaps to send me some touch-up stain to repair the flawed headstock. But they surprised me by replacing the entire bundle with a perfect instrument - no flaws whatsoever. And they got it to me in time for Christmas! They seemed to take it on as a personal mission to make sure that my daughter had a perfect ukulele on Christmas morning, and they succeeded! I could not have asked for better service. My daughter is delighted with her uke, and is learning to play it as quickly as she can. Who would have guessed that so many Taylor Swift songs could be played on the uke? :) The instrument itself sounds wonderful to my ears and hers. I expect her to use it almost exclusively as an acoustic instrument, but the built-in tuner is very convenient even if it is never plugged into an amp. And the acoustic sound is in no way compromised by the internal electronics. Bottom line, we are very satisfied with the appearance, the sound, the playability, and the service. Kudos to Lohanu!

It's exactly as advertised.
It's hard for me to believe they can sell this package for the price. Let me list the impressive features: frets are properly dressed; I won't have to spend any time filing them down. It's a satin finish, and flawless as far as I can see. As they say, it comes with Aquila strings, and a spare set is included There's also a clip on tuner, but the uke also has a built in tuner that seems adequate. Gig bag is padded enough that I think it will provide adequate transportation to a gig. Piezo pickup has a 3 band preamp. I run it through Behringer's knockoff of an LR Baggs through a Fender bass amp, and it sounds pretty good. I have had problems with other electric ukes that only have a two band EQ: when I finger pick, you can hear a thump from my fingers hitting the strings. There is none of that, this ukulele amplifies well. This looks really nice. The wood is open pored. Seems to have some kind of "tiger stripe" satin finish. One critical observation: it is shipped with the strings extremely loose. It probably took a half hour to get the strings close to being in tune. So there will be about a three day waiting period before this ukulele will hold its tune. Do not get discouraged, it's worth the wait. Just count on tuning it about every eight hours the first few days. Overall I am very impressed, especially considering the price. Yes, I would recommend to a friend.

Great Ukulele
I am a guitar player, and decided to get a ukulele. I have pretty decent sized hands, so I knew I had to get a bigger one. After doing a lot of research, I finally settled on this one. I got the tenor size, and it is so far perfect. The tuning took me a little while, but was made so easy with the built in tuner. I had some troubles with the clip on tuner, because the battery would not go in, but it finally did and it works just as well. I love the sound that this thing makes, it is great. Do not have an amp or a plug, so I cannot try out the electronic parts yet, but I assume itโs just as good as the acoustic part. This is a really good investment, and if you are willing to put down about $100, this ukulele is well worth the money.

Fantastic sound and a quality package from a great company!
I ordered this electric Lohanu cutaway ukulele (Tenor size) for my son for Christmas this year. He was extremely happy with the ukulele as am I. I have been truly impressed with the customer service received from the team at Lohanu (thank you Joseph and Natadel). They have been a pleasure to deal with in both my pre-purchase and post-purchase questions and concerns. The product itself is a beautifully crafted instrument, with a timeless guitar-like design. The on-board tuner and pickup electronics work very well (we have it connected to a small PA system). The string action is low enough for a beginner as well as a more seasoned player (our uncle demonstrated it's full potential), along with a smooth fret board and easy to see fret markers. The metal tuning knobs are also nicely done. Useful tip: as we have relatively big fingertips, we found this tenor size the perfect fit for our hands, and allowed us to adjust quickly to learning the uke chords. It came enclosed with everything we needed to get setup and start playing right away: a nicely padded tenor size bag, a separate tuner (though we always tend to use the built-in one), 2 picks (and a pick case), an extra pack of Aquila strings, as well as a decent quality adjustable strap. (It was a little tricky to get the strap on initially, but with some wiggling and careful pulling, we eventually got it over the strap mounts). I would highly recommend this instrument, and would not hesitate to purchase from them again. Fast shipping and proper packaging was also highly appreciated! Thanks again!

I love it
Update: I've had this over a month now. I play about seven hours a day. Obviously it's a joy to play, otherwise I wouldn't play it so much. I wore through a set of strings already. I'm a hand drummer/singer/singwriter with a few gigs coming up, going to take this to the stage. I love it that much. The beginner course that came with it was a great start. I zoomed through it in a day. Easy to sing and play with, got me going. I bought an amp. Sounds great plugged in. The only issue I had with it is the strings sat high close to the nut. It made, for example, E7 a bit difficult to press down. I took a very small file and lowered it at the nut. The action everywhere else was beautiful. I highly recommend. --------------- Pretty good, cute ukulele. The action was a bit high, but easily fixable. I swapped out the strings for a set of Aquila low G red. Original strings were beautiful, however, it was personal preference. I'm pretty happy with this ukulele. For the price, this is a great ukulele for adult beginners. A keeper.

Fantastic instrument, lots of extras and excellent customer support
If you are looking for a great sounding concert Ukulele for a decent price and with a bunch of extras, this is the one. I am a musician and tone/feel are important to me so I was thoroughly impressed by this instrument. The Uke sounds great whether it is played acoustically or plugged into an amplifier. I initially had an issue with the electronics where the onboard tuner did not work; I heard pops when connected to an amplifier. So I contacted customer support who responded in less than a day and offered a replacement, which I received in a few days. They addressed all my questions about the frets and string height and also provided information, photos and links with further information. The electronics/tuner on the replacement worked as expected and sounds just as great as the first one. Overall I highly recommend this instrument for both beginners and seasoned musicians. Also, a big shout out to the amazing Lohanu customer support team who were focused on the customer experience. Thank you!

Good uke overall
Received on time without any damage. Good sound and lots of extras came with it. I found the strings a bit higher off the fret board than my other uke so it may be a bit difficult for beginners.

Great little Uklele
I read the many glowing reviews and thought, "OK, some of these seem too good to be true" but there were enough of them and they were varied enough that I decided to take a chance and order this uke. The package with the ukulele and accessories arrived a day ahead of schedule, and has been a pleasant surprise from the word go. The Uke is very nicely put together, and has a sweet bright sound. I bought an amp today, and it sounds great amplified. It appears to be very well constructed, and I love the laser engraving on the headstock and around the sound hole: Much nicer than decals in my opinion. The accessories were very comprehensive, and I loved the extra touches such as an extra set of Aquilla strings, an extra battery for the tuner, and especially having the strap buttons installed.. I had some anxious moments when the screw broke off in my trusty old Oscar Schmidt OU4 when I was trying to install a strap button. The uke also came with good informative documentation, and I have had follow up e-mails inquiring about my level of satisfaction; not something you normally get when ordering on line or buying at a big box store. This is a very nice uke for the money, and I would highly recommend it!
