I already have a shade - 17 inches. Do you think I can replace that with the shades provided with this lamp?

Depends on the shade you currently have.. as long as the center circle is the same size of the one they send.. it should fit just fine. I included a picture of the fitting.. my fingers are on the bottom part of the hardware

How can I get my lamp to stand straight, it leans a lot?

I had that same problem I just took it apart again and took my time screwing it together. But it is a flimsy lamp I have mine in the corner because it has a slight lean. I hope this helps
