Learning Chinese? Understand the difference between "Tian Zi Ge" and "Mi Zi Ge" paper. Improvements?
First, some background and helpful hints if you or your little ones are trying to learn to write Chinese characters (Hanzi). If you or your child has been asked to purchase a notebook for Chinese handwriting practice, you need to figure out whether you need the "Tian Zi Ge" design or the "Mi Zi Ge" design. The grid-like "Tian Zi Ge" design is so named because the grid design resembles the Chinese character for "field", 田. The other common grid design for Chinese handwriting is called "Mi Zi Ge", because its grid design resembles the Chinese character for "rice", 米. I've attached two pictures to this review that shows the design difference. The purpose of the grid is to help students of handwritten Chinese write the various character strokes in the correct places and proportions. This notebook is imprinted with the more common "Tian Zi Ge" design, which resembles grid paper. If your kid just started Mandarin Immersion school or you're just starting a Chinese class, make sure that's the design the teacher wants to use. If you're instead in need of the "Mi Zi Ge" design, Amazon sells a 150-page Mi Zi Ge notebook made by the same manufacturer .WHAT'S AWESOME* This notebook is a good value considering the number of pages inside of it. The practice sheets consist of 50 double-sided pages (100 pages total)* The grid design is just right in size for beginners: not too large, not too small.* The grid design is neither too dark nor too light: it helps to guide the student without overwhelming them.* For people who care about product sourcing, this is made in the U.S.A., in San Bernardino, California.OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPROVEMENT* This is designed to be a disposable product, for the purpose of repetitive practice. The cover is lightweight cardstock and tends to get beaten up.* The paper is a reasonable weight but nonetheless shows a lot of bleed-through if you use felt-tipped markers or gel pens.* The outside and inside cover of this notebook represents an opportunity to provide useful instructional material that the manufacturer does not take advantage of. Wouldn't it be useful for learners to, say, have stroke order diagrams for HSK1 characters on the inside cover and initial pages?Good luck and 加油 (jiāyóu), students of Chinese!note: I was *not* solicited to write this review, and I bought this product with my own money. I received no compensation for this review and indeed I have no idea who the seller might be. I pride myself on writing unbiased reviews.

Great for Practicing -- if you write large!
The grids are much bigger than I anticipated--about half an inch by half an inch. I was expecting something a little smaller, but the book itself is well put-together and nicely made. It is perfect for writing and practicing Chinese characters in, if you write large. I tend to write small, so the boxes feel big. Overall, I was looking for a more generic grid-like journal to write my Chinese in, but that's more of a "I didn't know what I wanted" problem more than anything else. I would recommend this more for practicing writing certain characters than for actually writing in as a journal due to the size of the blocks and spacing. :)

Good for practicing correct character writing.
This is just as described and works great. It is holding up real well with how much beating it gets from my elementary aged child... Cover and pages are all still intact. It help my child write her characters but at this age I wish they had it a bit bigger boxes. I had to make my own in a way. Over all though still works great!

Bigger than I expected
It is bigger than I expected. Great color and good paper quality. A bit expensive for just 1 exercise book though.

Great for practice - Bleed through is a problem
This notebook is great for practicing your characters! good value for the price.Room for improvement - there's a lot of margin space that could be used and most ink pens bleed through. The only pens I've found that don't bleed through are the cheap pens that aren't all that nice to write with.

Essential for learning
I'm learning to write Chinese characters and this exercise book is great for practice. There are 140 squares in each page and there is a total of 100 pages. I wish there is a space between the rows of squares because most characters take up one whole square and sometimes more so it can look pretty crowded. The paper used for the pages is very nice and if pencil is used, can be erased without the paper falling apart.

Good practice book with 98 pages of squares
Useful practice book in general with good quality paper. Just a note that book only has 98 pages of squares, not 100 (shown in pics).

Super speedy delivery
The books are nice to write in and exercise. Its lacking space in between the squares for the pinyin writing though, you have to use the squares for it. Apart from that is a great purchase
