Good start, modification likely.
I bought two of these for use with Swiss/ German NATO fuel cans. My cans have an offset nozzle. The straps did not accommodate this so I had to straighten one side of the nozzle cross piece. Full cans of gasoline expanded and made for a tight fit to get in and out. The cover straps are a decent gauge steel but they attach to a ring at the back in a hook fashion, not a solid full loop. This made it possible to flex the hook right off the loop, defeating the whole locking strap purpose and there isn't enough metal to close and weld into a loop. I wasn't too worried about the security on my truck as I have a locking topper but would not rely on this unit mounted external. It's basically a good start but will have to be modified for whatever can you have. It will accept a shorter gas can. It will not accept plastic or lipped (original US) Blitz brand cans. It's for NATO cans that have a seam vertically up the can.

Other than one small issue excellent product.
We added this to the catwalk on my semi-truck to carry a 6 gallon DEF can (which I only fill to 5gal). The fit is perfect and it has plenty of easy mounting options of which we used the bottom 4 bolted through my catwalk. I am unable to use the locking band as the 6gal is significantly taller than the 5gal and am using a rubber snubber instead, but the band does seem solid. The only downside so far is the welds on the 2 bands/bars that arch over the bolts to protect the bottom of the can from the bolt heads broke. Welds were too shallow and had already started rusting inside (a sigh of contamination). In their defense where this is mounted is on a rough riding truck that sees a lot of miles. I just cut out a rubber (mud) flap to size and problem solved. It’s actually a bit more protective of the overall bottom now and will probably do the same with the other trucks. Will be purchasing more.

With modifications works for scepter water can
The product is clearly marketed as a gas can holder, but I wanted to mount my water cans. It takes a little work with a chisel to break the bottom elevators and the top nozzle support off. Then a little modification to the geometry of the compression bar. Once that is done though the can fits well and seems to be held in place firmly. I have yet to mount this on my car so I don't know how it is going to hold up. That said for being modified to purpose I think it is working great.

Durable
This thing is great! I mounted it to the rear door of my van and even added a spare tire to the outside. It has carried the weight incredibly well for about a year and several thousand miles now. No rust, damage, or signs of wear. The only thing I wish it had is a wider plate to cover the fill spouts on tanks that are offset to one side. Mine is set to the left, and I can easily remove the cap while it sits locked in the holder. No one can run off with the tank, but they could easily drain the fuel.

Low price, but top didn't fit my official NATO Jerry can, and not confident in the durability.
The low price was the main draw of this Jerry can holder. It has some thin plastic tape strips at some of the contact points with the can, but not the thicker, plastic or rubberized pads that many similar but more expensive mounts have. The retaining metal strap that goes over the top of the can has the usual plate welded on to discourage people opening the cap and siphoning off your gas, but the placement of the plate on this model was not correct for my official NATO style Wavian 5 gal. Jerry can, and I had to bend it to get it to fit over the opening of that can. I think that it would rattle quite a bit with a metal can, and might be better for a plastic one. Not sure if the welds are durable enough for unsupported side-mounting if doing rugged off-roading, maybe better for inside of a truck bed or resting on a camper fender to support from below. Since I modified it, I probably can't return it, but will likely go with a different mount.

As expected for the price.

Nice so far
Great so far.just got it. I have some plastic fuel cans.fits great in carrier.i had to flatten the tabs over the filler cap so they sat flat on the cover. There is strap loops for a strap. I still have to mount it on my trailer. I like it.

MILITARY fuel can holder
The media could not be loaded. Worth every penny, only at half of the competitior's price. The bottom basket fits perfectly with Scepter military fuel/water can; however, you'd have to adjust the upper strap a bit. First widen the cap area and bend the curve to fit the jerry can's contour then you may repaint the whole upper strap (I use high-heat engine paint so it's gas/oil resistant) to cover the chipped original power paint. Some reviews saying it doesn't fit. Wrong, it is apparently not for holding the civilian gas can, this is designed for the super tough MILITARY (style) 20L/10L jerry can which are widely used in Canada, US and NATO militaries. If you have a few holders to join together, you can use 1/4"Dx3/4"L bolts in between and 5/16" bolts at bottom.

What is supposed to go inside of this exactly?
Overall construction of it is sturdy. While nothing is wrong with the actual construction of the base, I cant seem to find any jerry can that will allow the handle to wrap around and lock into it. That being said, I found that you can still keep a typical jerry can held inside of the mount with the use of a bungee cord or two. While it did not fit on my vehicle, that was my own fault. I should have considered the clearance for the license plate.

Good value for money, but,...
Read the reviews and you'll find it doesn't fit Scepter gas cans of 20L. Some modifications to make it a quarter inch bigger at the bottom will suffice. Also, the army green 20 L fuel can has the spout to one side and this holder is designed for a center spout. I just welded and extra ring and a post with a locking hole in line with the spout and it worked.

This review is the one off roaders need
This is the review I would have liked to read a year ago. After wondering if it would fit or not, I decided to order it anyway to hold my Scepter military gas can. Does it fit.... Yes it does. The base holds the can almost perfectly. The locking attachement needs some modification but once done, all is PERFECT. You will need to zipcut both ears on the gas can cap holder and bend it near the handle. Once you have done this, the fit is PERFECT. For less than half the price of the competition, this is truly awesome

poor paint quality, no hardware
I found the paint quality poor - looked like the paint was flaking on a previous coat all over, and then it was resprayed. Almost seems refurbished? Not sure if hardware was supposed to be included, but there was none if it was supposed to be. Real concern however, was the paint quality.
