As a Chef working in a restaurant that works with fresh fish as well as everything else I do a lot of the butchering of different types of fish. Currently our menu contains Sea Bass, Red Snapper, Salmon, Halibut, as well as chowder. All of our fish comes to us field dressed but everything else we take care of. It used to be that the company we bought the product did a good job with scaling the fish as well but recently they've been getting worse about that and using the back of a knife just isn't the best way to do the job, besides not being the best on the knife! Well, when I got to work yesterday I was able to use the scaler for the first time and I have to say that I am quite impressed with the ease of use, ease of cleaning, and the great job it does taking the scales off! I am very happy with the purchase so far and as long as it doesn't break in a week I'm sure I'll be happy with it for a long time. It seems sturdy so I'm not really worried about that. Works really well, removes scales easily without them popping up or flying out of the sink. Pros: - solid brass head, this will last a long time - good design, the scaler is flat and the blades that remove the scales are horizontal so it does not cut into the fish skin or tear delicate areas - easy to use - easy to clean - well made - made in Japan Cons: - it is more expensive than others It does have a wood handle. This does not bother me and I like it but others may not. The head is well mounted but I am sure you could replace the handle if you are handy

As advertised. Solid thick brass. Perfectly sized for my hand. Will definitely remove scales fast. Seems to be well built and a great value. Made in Japan.

Heavy duty. Great design. Very easy to use. A quick descaler. They are perfect for gills and crappie. I’ve gone back to leaving the skin on some of my pan fish instead of filleting them all. The difference is noticeable. Especially with Shore Lunch fish breading!

I don't usually write reviews but I feel like I need to with this product. I have used many different methods to descale trout and this is by far the easiest, quickest, and most thorough tool I have ever used. I'll never use anything else ever again.

Got this to remove scales without making a mess in the kitchen. Was worried that it wasn’t made in Japan (from some reviews). Luckily, it was made in Japan. Nice quality. Expect it to last a long time. Would buy again.

Ho provato diversi attrezzi per squamare il pesce poi un giorno il mio maestro di cucina mi ha suggerito di usare questo. Micidiale, si accorciano i tempi di pulizia in modo significativo e di conseguenza si riduce drasticamente anche la fatica. Raccomandatissimo!

Great product Highly recommended

Useful and much better than the reverse spoon technique. However it is not manufactured in Japan as shown in the product page. I found that information out as soon as I opened packaging and it says made in China. I would made the same choice if you just said the truth of its manufacturing location. Why the false information? That’s why you got three stars.
