For Kids, For Fans, For... Everyone, Really
When I went to Bronycon in Baltimore the second time, there was a game room where people were basically taking the fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons mechanics and applying ponies to them. It was called "Heroes of Equis", and it was basically a homebrew D&D adventure for Bronies.Cut to about a year later, and Ponies gets its own dedicated RPG. It's not as deep mechanically as Dungeons & Dragons, and some veteran role-players may find it a bit sparse at first. However, this game honestly has a few neat mechanics that I honestly wish D&D would adopt itself. The "Friendship Token" mechanic being one of them, it takes a little bit of the randomness out of the dice rolls and introduces a bit of control over the most critical events in the campaign. It's also an RPG that encourages teamwork, and the more "ponies" you throw at a problem, the easier the problem is to solve by lowering the problem's dice level.A few problems with quality control keep me from giving it my Brony-biased five stars. One: There are a number of typos throughout the book. Like, glaring ones even. Ones that really should have been caught by the proofreader. Two: Some of the pictures, particularly those lifted directly from show screenshots, are blown up way too large and are pixelated and/or fuzzy. The included adventure is also a little bit silly. (I realize it's MLP, but you CAN treat your young audiences seriously too. They like to feel like something's at stake as well.)That said, these few flies in an otherwise charming and surprisingly pleasing vial of ointment aren't enough to put me off. Hopefully, future printings of the book will have these quality issues resolved. It's a brand new game endorsed by a company that already makes the most successful RPG of all time, and no one is certain of this one's future yet. That said, the book is otherwise well put together, the little original artwork there is is nice (hopefully there will be a lot more of it in future printings), the rules are simple and usable, and while this is only a basic foundation, I see plenty of room to build upon the game as it stands and make it even better. I'm interested to see where it goes.A good first attempt. 7/10; I would buy again, and I highly recommend it to my Brony friends in particular.

GREAT book, REALLY poor proofreading
Number 1: This book is awesome.Number 2: So. Many. Typos.Seriously, there are so many grammar and spelling errors in this it hurts. Not to mention the straight up typing errors.Table of contents says the heading is: Traits & ShamansActual chapter heading: Traits & StaminaNot kidding.Sometimes the errors are so blatant they distract from the actual usefulness of the book itself. Other times, like the example above, they result in a head-scratch and a giggle. This book was VERY poorly reviewed and proofread. This book is also AWESOME and I really like the direction it goes. It is a fantastically interesting guide and I love the details explaining how to create your pony, especially. It feels approachable for folks used to tabletop games and for those who are brand new to it.I'm excited for our first game!

A great family game!
Our children LOVE My Little Pony. The issue is, we can only play with their board games and figure toys for so long. This is a role playing game, very similar to D&D, except you are playing with My Little Pony games in their world. This is a HUGE hit and is very fun for the family to play!

A very simple/easy system to learn and run
My 6 yr old daughter is really enjoying Tails of Equestria. This is the first RPG that she has played and she is really embracing it; she can’t get enough. She didn’t really enjoy the other product, the starter kit, that much but she really liked the Pet Predicament in this book. She spent a lot of time with me going through the talents and quirks. I really recommend Tails of Equestria if your child likes My Little Pony and RPG’s!
