It’s obvious by the end of the first chapter that Beatrice Zinker is going to be someone kids will remember all throughout their lives. She has an unforgettable wit, spunk, and so much imagination—though my favorite thing about Beatrice is her unbreakable spirit. Beatrice’s story shows its readers the “upsides” to compromise and the expansion of friend-groups while still preserving individuality, a lesson I found refreshing. Beatrice has an inspiring optimism about her that I found contagious while reading her story. She shows readers the importance of having dreams NOW—not only when you’re older—and though sometimes expectations need to be managed to achieve them, they are worth pursuing.As a parent and former teacher, I also appreciated the vocabulary in this book. There are some difficult words for younger readers, but the story is written in a way that makes them attainable. I’ve never read a kid-lit book with the word “reconnaissance” in it before, but it’s there and it works and it’s fun. I was also a huge fan of the illustrations. More times that I could count, I found myself laughing at what had to be intentional “Easter eggs” type nods left by the author for the older reader/parent.Both my kids (a seven-year-old and a ten-year-old) enjoyed this story immensely and are looking forward to more stories with Beatrice. I would recommend this book for any child with a big imagination!

This review is mostly from my 8 year old twins as they are the ones who read it! Things they liked (in their own words):- I love that there are Ninjas and that Beatrice uses upside-down thinking to solve problems!- I like that there is action in the book!- The end was really fun and had upside down cake!They may need some work with writing reviews and expressing their thoughts, but they read this book in just a few days so I think that means it was pretty dang good!

My 9 year old granddaughter who is a reluctant reader loves this book!!! Getting her to finish a book is hard but she already is asking me to get her the next one. I have not told her she has to wait until next September. Beatrice is a fun read!

I'm 10 years old and I read this book, 'Beatrice Zinker'. I thought it was outstanding! I liked how the all the events in the book took place in one day. There are not many books like this. I loved this book so much! It helped me fall asleep wondering, "whats gonna happen next?" This book reminded me of third grade!! Keep up the good work! -Luna

Beatrice is the modern day Junie B. Must have in 2nd grade-5th grade classrooms!!

Fun read, but also deals with emotional topic like when your best friend finds new friends. We kept wanting to tune back in to see what Beatrice was up to next. Good level to build up vocabulary.

I quickly fell in love with Beatrice and her out-of-the-box, but true-to-herself thinking. I enjoyed every page of this book and cannot wait to share it with with my students! They will easily relate to Beatrice and her friendship troubles. She is delightful and I'm hoping we'll meet up again!

My mom bought me this book and I'm a 12 year old. I loved how creative it was and even though I'm a bit old for it I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was a great example of how things change and that you can wiggle out of everything. I love the concept of upside down, and love how Beatrice is a misfit. An absolute fabulous book and I can't wait for the next two!

Excellent book! My daughter doesn’t like to read, but she loves this book and asking for the next one.
