It more than likely leaks because you have a defective humidifier. The one I bought for my husband did the same thing and I returned it, and got a replacement. The replacement is fine and has no issues. Chances are good yours is defective also. Raises some questions about the product. Hopefully you can get a replacement and it will be fine. The one I purchased for myself was fine, so that is why I got one for my husband. Kind of hit or miss at this point.
