Very well researched and a great read.
I've been looking for a detailed analysis of the invasion of Norway for some time to complete a research project. This book was exactly what I needed. Worry Ye Not - it isn't a dry academic tome and has lots of behind the scenes events woven into the narrative which help capture the intensity of the situation.I would have liked a little more emphasis on the verbals of Oberst Birger at Oskarborg fortress immediately before opening fire which indicated the huge pressure he was under.Regardless of that minor point this is a well written and quality feel book which certainly gives a great insight into the invasion from competing angles.

The Blucher
An excellent book which covers the whole history around the initial German invasion of Norway. A tragic history of this naval confrontation which cost so many lives with the sinking of the Blucher and with the loss of both German and Norwegian vessels and personnel. Contains a great deal of useful maps, diagrams and photographs which all enhance the entire story. Highly recommended.

Very good. Comprehensive and well researched. Recommended.
This is the story of the sinking of the heavy cruiser Blucher, during the German invasion of Norway in April 1940, as she and other ships sought to make their way up the long fjord leading to Oslo. It is much more than just that contest of arms, as it puts the whole episode in the context of why Norway was invaded, the key role the Blucher force had in the planned and very important capture of Oslo and the impact of her loss.Naturally, Haarr's earlier book, The German Invasion of Norway, covers the sinking, but, while there is obvious overlap (including map and photo duplication), I see this book as a much more comprehensive work. The authors have done a great deal of research. Overall, I found it a most interesting book and am happy to recommend it.

A definitive account, brilliantly researched and presented
No authors will get close to this brilliant account - the Norwegian historians who put this work together have amassed a great amount of material. The result is a complete and compelling history. Brilliant.

Tells the entire story from the planning to the aftermath in great detail and accuracy
I loved the comprehensiveness of the book. Great detail as to why did it happen, how could it happen, what did happen and what then was the result. As all Geirr Haarr books, deeply researched and extremely accurate. Also, very well written, easy and enjoyable to read.I have several power point programs on WWII history in Norway. This book provided much valuable information and understanding.

Bringing small time history into focus
As a rule students of history acknollaged the Norwegian Campaign only as an appetizer befor France. I very much applaud that after 83 years the courage and apprehension of all concirned is put into focus - be it admiral or sailor - be it Norwegian, German or British. A thrilling appetizer sometimes deserves more appreciation than a maincourse, you ate so many times on end. Thank you for that.
