Reliable PoE Switch for IP Camera Setup
The TP-Link TL-SG1218MP has been a solid addition to my home camera setup. I am using it to power and switch the IP cameras feeding into my Frigate NVR, and it has handled the job without any issues since I put it in service.Power delivery to the cameras has been consistent and reliable. With 250W of PoE+ budget across 16 ports, there is plenty of headroom for a typical camera deployment with room to grow. All my cameras came up right away and have been running steady since.Handles all 16 ports with no lag or speed issues.Heat management is better than I expected. The steel chassis stays relatively cool even with multiple PoE devices pulling power, which is reassuring for a switch that runs around the clock. The build quality feels appropriately industrial, and the rack mount form factor fits cleanly into a standard setup.Setup was genuinely plug and play. No configuration was needed for my use case, just power it up, plug things in, and go. The two uplink ports and combo SFP slots are nice to have if you need to expand or connect to a larger network down the road. For anyone building out a camera system or needing PoE for access points and other devices, this switch does exactly what it should without any fuss. TP-Link delivered a practical piece of network gear that just works at a decent price point.

Very good POE switch
I acquired this for my home to replace a Netgear PoE switch that died and stopped delivering power. One of the things I particularly liked was the separate uplink (non-PoE) ports, which left a full 16 ports available for downlink connections. I hooked everything up, turned it on, and everything began working, including some ethernet ports that had previously not been getting power. (The specs say it supports 802.3af/at, make sure your devices are compatible.) The fan in the device makes a little bit of noise, so this is ideally placed in your basement or equipment closet, not your office. It's also quite big, so make sure you have enough room for it (or rack-mount it). No problems observed in the first few days of operation, so I'm a happy customer for now. And as long as it works without trouble at least 3 years, I'll remain a happy customer.Note that there are some operational changes you can make with dip-switches: I left them all off, but advanced users may want to look at a manual before buying, to make sure the options meet the needs.

Solid Performance, Just Mind the Fan Noise
Works exactly as advertised. I used it to power several Ubiquiti cameras and Wi-Fi devices as part of my home network setup, and it handled everything without issue. Setup was truly plug-and-play, and the build feels sturdy enough for long-term use.One thing to note: the internal fan does kick in and can be noticeably loud, especially in quiet environments. If you're planning to use this in a home setting, make sure to install it somewhere the noise wonโt be a distractionโlike a garage, utility closet, or network cabinet.Overall, great value for the functionality. Just plan your placement accordingly.

TP Link switch TL-SG1218MP
Seems to be working ok. The only down side is fan noise that is always on. Though I have it installed in the laundry room. I would think the fan should cycle on and off if it developed more internal heat during current draw. Maybe that will be in next design.

Good Buy
Really great unit for home/lab vlan management. I use this as part of my home setup and have had great experience with it. It is a great value for the cost and allows for multi vlans to assist in keeping home network optimized and secure.

Loud & ... proud?
It's clear that this model has some real strengths and weaknesses. Strengths, lots of power to run PoE devices, and it powers up the PoE ports very much almost instantly within seconds of turning the switch on itself. But the weaknesses turned me to returning it. The 40mm fans in it are some of the loudest I've heard in the industry, and that's saying something, having spent years in network closets with 3Com and Nortel gear. The form factor is kinda huge, unnecessarily, it's mostly empty space in the device which doesn't really hurt it, but it didn't need to be this big for an unmanaged network switch either.Amazon is getting tired of the returns and offered me $30 refund if I kept it, which would have been enough for industry-best silent 40mm fans, but that would mean voiding the warranty to install them anyway. I opted to return, TP-Link offers better options here on Amazon for similar money, so I'll suggest you go that way unless you get a wicked good sale price on this guy here, need the highest power output possible, or just really like the white noise of fans running.
