This product is fantastic. Honestly, it's better than fantastic. Could it be, dare I say, a Holy Grail? I have sensitive, acne prone, oily/combination skin with rosacea and I have SUCH a hard time finding a traditional moisturizer that isn't too heavy and doesn't break me out, but is also hydrating enough to keep my skin from drying out and getting flaky. A few months ago I was really struggling with yet another bout of congestion and irritation and I decided to forget "moisturizer" all together and focus in on maximizing my hydration levels with toners/serums. Immediately my skin starting looking calmer and clearer, but I would still end up feeling slightly dry and tight by the end of the day and in the morning when I woke up. Enter The Ordinary Squalane Oil. This stuff is amazing. I started mixing a couple drops of squalane in with a small amount of my favorite toner (Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioner) in my hands and gently pressing it into my skin it all over my face as the last step of my routine. Within like, 48 hours my tightness/dryness had completely disappeared. Seriously, I am not exaggerating. My skin felt so comfortable and just like, "normal". Not too oily or too dry or too suffocated, just healthy. Sometimes I'll pat an extra drop of the oil in around my more sensitive areas like my eyes and mouth if I want a little extra nourishment, but most of the time I don't feel like I even need it. The oil itself is really lightweight and not greasy feeling at all. Most oil type products sit on top of my skin and feel suffocating, but this one sinks right in. It feels almost like it's just a natural a part of my skin that's supposed to be there. And really, that "my skin but better" feeling makes so much sense because squalane is just a more stable, (and in this case) plant derived version of squalene (with an E) which is a naturally occurring lipid found in our skin. Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone with sensitive and/or acne prone combination skin who is looking for lightweight, non-greasy facial oil with a natural, skin-like feel.

Immediately felt a relaxing feeling and feels like youve got protection on while not feeling oily or heavy. Your face feels like its restored, only just now used but will try to update in few weeks/months. Currently using to try to treat seborraic dermatitis/flaky scalp/flaky eyebrow/ flake nose

I’ve really enjoyed adding this squalane oil to my skincare routine. It’s lightweight, spreads easily, and absorbs much better than I expected without leaving my skin feeling greasy. It gives my skin a healthy, hydrated feel and layers well with the rest of my skincare products. Since it’s fragrance-free, it’s also a good option if you have sensitive skin. A few drops go a long way, so the bottle lasts quite a while. Overall, it’s a simple, effective moisturizer that I’d happily buy again.

I stumbled onto a body care routine for keratosis pilaris (“chicken skin”/bumpy skin on back of thighs) that made me fall in love with this product. I soak in the tub first to soften skin, scrub kinda aggressively with a pumice stone, dry off ~ 80%, then wipe on a 7% glycolic acid, wait about four minutes, and follow with this squalane. The result is surprisingly supple skin that lasts for days, and the rough, bumpy chicken-skin texture that used to be a constant annoyance on the back of my thighs and sides of arms has dramatically improved. The combination of physical exfoliation with the pumice followed by repeated glycolic acid sessions over a week or two actually loosens the little keratin plugs enough to clear them out, sometimes just with a fingernail, which is something that’s basically impossible without proper prep (but very satisfying). The squalane after seals everything in without feeling heavy or clogging anything up. It gives the suppleness of just-dry skin, without the oily feel of a lotion/body butter. After I do this process, my skin feels like I just walked out of a spa treatment, not like I did something in my own bathroom. As a standalone moisturizer it’s also great on my long bleached hair ends when I need a quick smoothing treatment — a tiny amount goes a long way. Simple, clean, one ingredient. Hard to argue with results like this.

Skin concerns: 40s, dry in a dry climate. Rosacea. Sensitive, at times raw due to dryness in a dry climate and rosacea flares. This is a FANTASTIC product. After using Vanicream’s face lotion, I was noticing a dramatic difference in the skin on the back of my hands where I pat excess skincare products (not acids though!). I saw that an ingredient no other product I’ve used has is squalane. I’d heard before that that is a really hydrating ingredient, so I chose to conduct an experiment and add the pure oil into my routine. I use this by adding 6 drops to said face lotion, combining in my palms and spread on my face evenly by rubbing my palms on my face. It’s very easy to apply. It’s extending how long the bottle of Vanicream lasts. I’ve used this once daily, twice on days I don’t leave the house, for a month or so and the bottle is half empty, so this goes a long way. I’ve noticed a change in my skin hydration. This hasn’t caused any breakouts. Squalane doesn’t feed any skin bacteria or fungus, so if you’re wary of any oils due to any previous increase in acne, use this with confidence. This doesn’t cause milia on my eyes, a problem I’ve had before with occlusive barriers. It doesn’t sting if I get right up to my lash line. It gives you a nice glassy glow, but doesn’t give you that fried chicken look. As with any oil, you can’t use it with sunscreen as it compromises the effectiveness of it, which is why I don’t use it in the AM when I’m going to leave my house. I can’t speak one way or the other regarding purity, but I trust in The Ordinary to have exactly what it says it is on the bottle. They are a reliable brand, but do your research before adding any skincare product to your routine, be nice to your skin! As this is not an active, it is safe to use with no ramp up. 5/5 purchase and I will buy it again!

This oil leaves my skin lookng more alive and very radiant. Love it. If you have oily skin definitely isn't for you, I have dry/very dry skin so it helps alot. I put it on top of my hyaluronic acid and moisturizer abd thus leaves me feeling extra moisturized all day.

This is wonderful serum on my face! It feels so good and is not oily at all! I use it everyday and my skin feels amazing! It's lightweight and feels very hydrating on my skin. I will continue using this everyday!

Great item. If your skin barrier is ruined from using 7392 different products from brands who are actually not trying to fix your skin, use this. It’s very gentle and natural. Good price too.
