HODIK Weather Station with Atomic Clock Indoor Outdoor Thermometer Wireless, Humidity and Temperature Monitor Barometer Hygrometer with High Precision Sensor

I garden and it's important for me to have an accurate idea of the weather round the garden. I got this weather station because weather apps and the NOAA forecast don't get close enough to inform me about conditions exactly where I am. I've had this weather station for about 4 days now and I like it. It wasn't hard to set up once I had equated the buttons and their actions fully with the instructions, and it seems fairly accurate. Currently I have one station reporting but I may get another one or two. to place in other parts of the garden - you can add another two stations to this system. My garden is difficult and has some hotspots in the summer which fry both my roses and my vegetables and I will have to use shade cloths at some point, so extra reporting stations will help, especially as there is an alarm that can be set on this unit with both low and high temperature conditions. I like that I can have it bright or dim or not visible, just by touching the top front, and I like having the phases of the moon shown too. The display is large enough that I can see it across the room. It is worth noting that I found that where I positioned the in the house affected the accuracy of the interior temperature reading. I had started by placing it in a corner of the kitchen by an exterior wall and it wasn't able to register the temperature of the room close enough relative to the temperature reading from the heating/air conditioning control panel, and read it as a few degrees cooler. I moved it into different places with more air circulation until it registered the interior temperature close to what the panel said. Keep it away from heating vents/air conditioner vents, coffee machines, cookers, toasters etc., etc., and you should find the interior reading pretty accurate. I hung the outside temperature and humidity monitor on a nail facing North on a post a few feet from our porch. I thought it would have a better accuracy than in the porch itself, and that is working well.

UPDATE - It has now been almost 3 full years since I purchased this weather station and I must say, it's still going strong. I have not had any issues with it what-so-ever! The only thing I have had to do was change the batteries in the outdoor sensor (simple!). So glad I made the decision to buy this! _______________________________________________________________________________ Original Review: I thought 'how good can this be at this price point?'...this is an amazing value! I previously owned a Lacrosse weather station similar to this that cost twice as much 7 years ago. Although it had a slightly larger display, it did not have all the features this unit has. Also, the Lacrosse unit was a bear to set up, the instructions were minimal and not very clear. NOT SO, with this weather station! One thing I don't see mentioned in the reviews here is the MARVELOUS job they did in putting together a well written and illustrated User Guide. Seriously, I expected to see all sorts of misspellings and bad grammar, instead what I found was plain, clear, and concise English. Great Job! This is super simple to set-up, just take your time and refer to the step by step set-up in the guide book. It took me about 15 minutes to get everything set the way I wanted it (I'm very picky). The display on this is very clear and colorful. The most important information can easily be read from across a fairly large room - if you have decent eyesight. The color scheme is well thought out. Indoor and outdoor temperatures are displayed in different colors so you can distinguish which is which...handy if the temp outside is close to the temperature inside. Accuracy - keep in mind that just because your temperature display may not exactly match your local official temperature, it does not mean the accuracy of the unit is bad. It is not uncommon to have 2 - 3 degree temperature variances. Many factors can affect the temperature display, such as where you place your outdoor sensor (follow the guides suggestions!), and localized pockets of cooler or warmer air close to you versus your local official station. Particularly if you live in a low lying area vs a slightly higher elevation. Directly above the display in the center you will find what looks like icons representing light/Zz. Don't be an idiot like me and look for a button to adjust your brightness level or put your display into sleep mode. These icons are touch sensitive. Once the unit is plugged in you simply touch the icons to adjust your screen brightness. Also worth noting is that if you have the Atomic Clock synchronizer ACTIVE, the screen will blank out every hour on the hour for up to seven minutes until your sensor makes a connection. This will only happen during the wee hours of the morning, not during the day. You also have the option to turn this feature off and manually set the time, date, etc yourself. All-in-all, this is one heck of a bargain. It is not some cheap piece of junk. I fully expect this will serve me long beyond the one year warranty provided. I highly recommend this!

The weather station is as described with a bright, clear and colorful screen. It's data is accurate. After almost 2 years the unit developed a couple annoying issues. I emailed Hodik, the vendor. Even though the warranty is for only one year they sent me a replacement at no charge. I would recommend this product and vendor.

Easy set up, large screen and easy to see the data. I like that there are 3 brightness settings. I was pleasantly surprised and highly recommend.

The Hodik Weather Station is an impressive device. I'm a physicist (a physics prof) and I care about measurement accuracy above all else. Aesthetics are nice, but first a device has to provide accurate values for the quantities it reports. I've been studying the Hodik Weather Station for several days and I'm getting good results. Technically, it provides accurate values for temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. Measuring temperature is relatively easy these days; thermistors are amazing devices that are easily instrumented and almost any engineer can build the electronics to get good temperature values from thermistors. In other words, I'm not worried about temperature values. The physical quantity that most of these inexpensive devices struggle with is humidity -- it's a difficult measurement, requiring a good sensor and some sophistication in the electronics and computer analysis. I've bought a bunch of too-inexpensive devices from Amazon that claim to measure humidity. Most of them provide only minimal accuracy -- about all they can report is dry, medium, or humid. Anything else they claim is just meaningless numbers. To my delight, there are a small fraction of inexpensive devices that actually report meaningful humidity measurements and this Hodik weather station is one such device. Moreover, it does the job both inside and outside. I wish I could compare it to a precision instrument -- getting humidity to 1% or better requires very careful measurement, probably with a sling psychrometer, and I don't own such a device. Nonetheless, I am confident that the Hodik unit is within a few percent of true humidity -- something I can't say for most of the gadgets I've purchased on Amazon. I've watch its humidity values over a few days and they agree with physical reality (e.g., dew and condensation in the environment) as well as with other high-quality devices I trust. Yay Hodik! The devices themselves (indoor and outdoor units) are nicely built and engineered. I've never seen an outdoor unit that displays temperature and humidity locally -- that's a cool addition and I wasn't expecting it. The indoor unit is fine, but it could use a "quick start" explanation. The user manual is typical for Chinese equipment and is a bit too much for most people, including me. So here is a quick start "manual": 1. Insert 2 AA batteries in the remote unit and 3 AA batteries in the indoor unit (or plug in its power adapter). 2. Put the remote unit outside. 3. Tap the lightbulb-Zz "button" on the top center of the indoor unit to see what's happening -- it's not a physical button; it's touch sensor that probably detects the capacitance of your finger. That "button" takes some getting used to. 4. Note: if you plug in the power adapter and tap that "button" once, twice, or repeatedly, the display will stay on. If you use only batteries indoors, you'll have to keep tapping the lightbulb-Zz button, which is a nuisance. 5. About 5 or 10 minutes after you turn the unit on, the radio antenna icon will disappear and you'll then be able to set the time, date, etc. At that point, the "mode" button on the back of the indoor unit will start working. Cycle through the settings, using the up and down buttons to get the values right. 6. You'll now have a fully functional indoor unit, except for the fact that the "atomic clock" accuracy won't kick in for a day or two or three (it requires radio contact with WWVB from Colorado that will happen in the early morning hours). The atomic clock isn't in the unit; instead, the unit listens to WWVB and obtains super-accurate time from that transmission. It took my unit 3 days and a repositioning to get it to sync with WWVB. Bottom line: this Hodik weather station is a great device. I've used other stations over the years and this one is at least as good as the best of that group. I am particularly happy to have a remote/outdoor unit that measures humidity accurately. That it reports that humidity (and the temperature) at the outdoor unit itself is an added bonus. Wow, that's a cool feature!
