Emulsifier, not solvent.
This worked really well on on super gritty and greasy 8 speed chain. I sprayed it on and put some in a chain cleaning tool and ran the chain through and sprayed some more, it seemed to just be building up, but that is because it is an emulsifier, not a solvent. It turned the grease into a mayonnaise consistency (same chemical process) then I just had to rinse it off with plenty of water (not sure if that is the recommended use but it worked for me). Make sure to reapply chain lubricant to displace the water so you don't end up with a rusty chain. I really like that it is not a dangerous substance as some other degreasers are.

Good product--very expensive
The degreaser works fine. But it is insanely expensive (the bottle is really small). Now I am using Simple Green and it works just fine for much less money.
