From the makers of Coraline comes the story of Norman, a boy who must use his ability to see and speak with the dead to save his town from a centuries-old curse. In addition to spooky zombies, he'll also have to take on mysterious ghosts, wily witches, and, worst of all, clueless grown-ups. But this young ghoul whisperer will soon find his paranormal abilities pushed to their otherworldly limits. Featuring the voice talents of Kodi Smit-McPhee, Anna Kendrick, Casey Affleck, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Leslie Mann, Jeff Garlin and John Goodman, it's a frightfully funny and magically thrilling adventure for the whole family in eye-popping stop-motion. Fun and technically terrific, but lacks a little of the soul of "Coraline"
Wildly creative and technically terrific, there is much to admire in this animated play on traditional zombie films. But unlike โCoralineโ โ made by some of the same people โ or the other Tim Burton/Henry Selick macabre animated works, thereโs a certain lack of soul and emotion here that keeps it from climbing to the heights of those films. Thereโs also an odd unevenness of tone. While it has a few really inspired visual and verbal gags, it switches a bit awkwardly back and forth between being almost over-earnest, and a kind of hip, ironic distanced humor. And much of the plot feels familiar and/or predictable. Part of the struggle for me as an adult is that this is really made for โtweens. Too scary for little kids, it also limits the film a bit on the older side. It canโt work as easily for adults as some โkids filmsโ (ala Pixar, etc), where 8 years olds can enjoy it while 30 or 40 year olds can get it on a whole different level. I bet 11 year olds would flat out love this, but unlike the films mentioned earlier, I felt a bit left out of the fun. Still, it has itโs moments, both of humor and heart, and Iโm glad I saw it. I just donโt know that Iโd ever go back for seconds.

I loved it
I watched this movie in the theaters twice. And loved it both times. Now I just placed my order for the blue ray and DVD. The movie was a bit on the scary side. As a grown woman, I was a bit scared in the beginning too and at one point thought to myself " WT heck? I thought this was a kid's movie!". Then again, I'm a chicken and don't usually do horror at all. I did notice kids crying and parents walking out but midway through the movie it settled down and you stopped being scared. Or even disturbed. And that is what makes this movie beautiful. It didn't surprise me that the director said he was inspired by his own experience as a kid bullied. I think anyone who has been bullied ( and dare I say bullied others) probably can see a bit of themselves in Aggie and Norman and the other characters. This movie was sophisticated and showed values of empathy, kindness, bravery, sympathy, acceptance and most of all, forgiveness. All of which Norman displays in his quest. I thought it would be a great movie for kids. Judging the response from some of the adults, they could learn something from this movie too. I don't believe the morality in the move was all over the place as some have mentioned. I kind of thought it was pretty consistent with what many kids who face bullying experience and the moral dilemma a society and it's people find themselves. Update: I just saw the movie on DVD. Spoiler alert: The last scenes music is different from the movie in theatres. Too bad, because the music really made the scene in the end interesting. I dont get the discrepancy in the soundtrack.

What an incredible movie!
I had picked this up cheap on dvd because we like to watch animated movies. What I didn't expect was to be completely charmed by this movie. It's terrific. The animation is top-notch. As is the story. We had to upgrade to blu-ray because it's a definite keeper.

A wonderful and entertaining stop-motion film.
I admit, I only looked into "Paranorman" as I absolutely loved Coraline (Blu-ray 3D) [2009] [Region Free ] with its the crafty and wonderful stop-motion animation (and which I thoroughly recommend!). I was not disappointed, the film is very well done, the stop-motion animation is indeed a work of art, the scrip is clever and thoughtful and, this being a "scary" film, there are some truly, truly scary sequences in this wonderful production. I watched this film with a 9-year old on a Halloween night and this proved to be an excellent choice - the kid was scared! Truly scared, but also entertained, we both laughed (he laughed much more, I have to admit), but the film proved to be enjoyable and thought-provoking, with an array of weird and wonderful characters and a few twists in a story. Seriously, not often I come across films for children that are so enjoyed by children but also are entertaining for adults. The message is also a good one, most of all "Paranorman" teaches children (and young adults) about open-mindedness and acceptance and how to be tolerable to one another. This film has countless topics that I, as an adult, thought were very well-addressed, such as personal relationships, family and friends, and courage and keeping one's promises. PLUS, the voice-overs were excellent! Four and a half to five stars. Oh, how I wish I saw this in 3D!
