A GREAT Series
I both love everything and dislike nothing about these mysteries. I now can understand why the Endeavor series on PBS was also so well received. They stuck to a successful format. Unfortunately, the quality of the DVDs in this set is not that great. It seems like they are 420p at best. Some scenes are dim and even somewhat hazy at times but the quality of the performances more than make up for it. I'll rewatch them many times as I already have with the Endeavour series.Listen for the code played at the beginning of the theme at the end of each episode. M O R S E_ _ _ _ _ . _ . . . . .

TOP[ NOTCH ENTERTAINMENT
I CAN SEE WHY THIS PROGRAM WAS HIGHLY RATED IN OVER 40 COUNTRIES. ONE PROGRAM LEADS TO A DESIRE TO VIEW THE WHOLE SERIES. I DID PURCHASE THE WHOLE SERIES, AND WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. THE BEST DRAMATIC SERIES I HAVE SEEN IN YEARS. YOU CANNOT BEAT THE BRITISH FOR DRAMA PROGRAMS. THIS SERIES WAS WELL WRITTEN, AND THE ACTING WAS SUPERB.

Where It All Began - Inspector Morse (The Complete Series)
What can I say? I have delayed purchasing this 19-DVD disc set for years, because I truly did not understand the chronological order of BBC / PBS shows: Inspector Morse then Inspector Lewis and finally Endeavour. I am currently working my way through, from beginning to end, all the discs. One thing that may sour folks from purchasing the Inspector Morse: The Complete Series, is that the quality of the television shows lacks high definition - which we have come to expect. When the series began, standard TV was recorded in 360 lines. Today? Most TV and films are recorded in 1080 (standard) or 2160 (Blu-Ray) or even 4K. It will take some getting used to regarding the allegedly 'fuzzy' picture quality of this series. That being said, Inspector Morse is still a well-written murder / mystery series worthy of your time and financial investment. Do not let the 19-DVD discs overwhelm you. You will be pleased that you did.

A thinking man's detective
What can I say about a detective who solves crimes with old time gum-shoe detective work. I love it although Morse's reluctance to play nice with new technology and new age crime psychology can irk some viewers. Morse loves his classical music (you'll get a fair dose while watching) and while being an Oxford graduate he he never brings it up. Rather he disdains his pompous elitist fellow alumni and the bubble they inhabit. He relies on his sidekick DCI Lewis who is much younger to handle all the 'new fangled ' technology while Morse relies on his hard earned knowledge of human behavior to be the most successful detective in Oxford. Morse relies on cynicism and irony a great deal.Morse also admits freely and honestly when he is wrong or has made a mistake. That quality adds a humanity to his character. If you enjoy brain twisting plots and great give and take between Morse the teacher and Lewis his neophyte student I think you'll enjoy this series.

One of the best British crime series ever!
They simply do not make television like this anymore. Inspector Morse was made for John Thaw-no one else could be Morse! Kevin Whatley is also just right for Lewis and together, each episode is worth the time to watch it. If you enjoy British TV series, then this is an absolute must for your collection, or to give as a gift to others.

The Rolls Royce of television police drama
If you have never seen an instalment of Inspector Morse, you owe it to yourself to see one of the finest police dramas ever produced. Top of the line stories, a cast of highly talented actors and actresses, and the highest quality in sets and cinematography, marked each two hour episode. Airing from 1987 to 2000, a total of 33 episodes, had viewers glued to watch the latest in the series focused on Inspector Morse, brought vividly to life by John Thaw. A follow up series was created with Morse's Detective Sergeant Robbie Lewis, now an Inspector and his Detective Sergeant Hathaway, brought quality police drama to viewers for a further decade. The recently concluded series, Endeavour, was a prequel to Inspector Morse, giving the fans the necessary history of how the characters came to be. Definitely recommended for anyone who appreciates British crime drama.
