Must Read!
As a person who suffers from clinically diagnosed depression and anxiety, I connect most with stories that I can escape to. That when I come up for air, I have to blink a few times to remember where I am. The Black Witch Chronicles is one of those stories…Once again, Laurie Forest was able to create imagery that put you on the terrace as Tierneys’ kelpies appeared. It put you in the hallway outside of Trystans room full of spiderwebs and darkness from the death fae Sylla. You felt the ground beneath you give out as Noilaans’ runic system crumbled by the shadow consuming the city.I cried. I cheered. I laughed. I hurt. I felt the four words “I feel so alone” in my soul. The entire time I was reading I was writing the screenplay in my head. Knowing what scenes would most likely be cut, thinking how would they rewrite this scene to make sense in a cinematic sense and how would they film that scene with true realism. At first, I had grief with every point of view at the twentieth hour of Xishlon. But then, as the twenty first hours events unfolded I understood why it was there. If you think about it, they would do something similar if the book didn’t have these scenes and they had to make sense of where everyone was or coming from if it was adapted to a movie. What I didn’t like:Xishlon was too choppy. Going from character POV to character POV was a bit overwhelming.Mixing first person and third person threw me off. I guess I never noticed it in the previous books because I only ever listened and never read it on paper. After listening to the first three audiobooks I heard Tierney a certain way. So her interactions from Or’myrs point of view really seemed to be out of character and there was no build up to their attraction other then them making fast friends in his tower. The last few chapters were hard to read. The montage of visions, Elloren being cradled…I had to reread paragraphs a few times because it was hard to truly visualize and comprehend what was happening. That being said, I don’t believe my few grievances warrant anything less than a 5 star review. They didn’t diminish the story or the beautifully written world by this author in any way!!Thank you Laurie Forest for what you give to the world!

World building
Such in depth, creative, fully developed world building and characters! Honestly one of my favorite series of all time. Character growth, fully fleshed out characters that feel relatable and real - both main and side, dramatic world building, action, adventure, romance, and representation! High quality writing and production. Satisfying story telling. What more could you ask for? Spice gradually increases throughout the series. More NA than YA and so dang good!

Incredible author, deeply developed storyline
I have so much trust in Laurie Forest as an author. It is always a wild ride. I have to take reality breaks to slow my racing heart. Powerfully written. Every character is relatable. Don't like the romance? Skim a chapter. But don't skim too faaaar because BOOM she lures you into this false sense of safety with a couple romantic chapters and then you'll very quickly need to read through the last half all in one sitting because it's nail-bitingly tense. Not many books' thralls can withstand a re-read, but even knowing what's coming, this whole series is engulfing. I love Elloren. I love and hate her struggles. She's so humanly relatable and watching her characters' growth and transformations is just hugely satisfying. If you liked the Black Witch, you will love to see where this book takes her. Thanks for another FANTASTIC read.
