Great if you know how to use it.
My swimming instructor suggested me to get one of these as she has been using them with masters and it proved as a very effective tool. I searched on amazon and read the negative reviews. So before buying I went back to her as something was not right. She explained that people often don't understand how to use it. The strap is not supposed to completely tie up your ankles, it gives you freedom to move a bit if necessary. It can be used for different levels of proficiency. So I bought it and have used a few times already. It is hard work! My instructor suggested to swap every 100m with and without the strap. I cannot yet do that much, so I swim 50m front crawl with the strap, 50m breaststroke, 50m front crawl no strap, 50m breaststroke, 50m front crawl no strap, 50m breaststroke. And I do 5 sets like this with 2 minutes break between the sets. I can tell you it feels SO easy to swim front crawl once you remove the strap:) And by the 4th set when I swim with the strap I can feel my arms really tired as I sink much more. Overall great product, it is not a buoy to pull you to the surface but with this strap you have to really work your arms, rotation and those muscles that you use to pull yourself up out of the water. And when you do sink you have the freedom to slightly kick to help you out:)

Great, but do twist into figure of 8 if it's too big.
Great strap for training in the pool. Quite a few reviews pointing out that the strap is quite large, which it is. I put a twist in to make a figure of 8 and it works perfectly for me. I suspect that you could always put 2 twists in if you had really small feet and ankles.

Great bit o f kit
This seems like such a simple idea, a band to keep the ankles together when kicking. I use it with a pull bout to stop the legs splaying apart during rotation, and to feel the connection between toe, hip and entry hand.Using it during normal swimming is tough - requires a good hip driven stroke to keep the balance right. You could use a bit of old inner tube, or something, but this is the right size, it's durable, and bright yellow, so I'm unlikely to lose it.Great product.

The Finis ankle strap have Factory Induced Degradation (FID)
The Finis ankle strap have Factory Induced Degradation (FID), which means that the product is already "programmed" to yield after some time of use, however, this will be before scraping the material from which it is made. To be exact, the strap has a transverse tunnel as long as the staple width (the picture shows the two ends of the tunnel) - well, this transverse tunnel will be the line of breaking the ankle strap. Shame on you, Finis !The cost of the product in relation to the return shipping costs does not justify a refund, but I will definitely not buy it again.

Simple and effective
A simple but effective way of improving your swimming technique! I was always trying to kick my legs when using a pull bouy- but this isolates your legs completely and ensures that you focus entirely on the 'pull' element. I never swim with a pull bouy now unless i use the band as well!

Seems pretty durable and is a must for new swimmers
We purchased this for my kid who is on a swim team; and is one of the required items for the daily practice. This FINIS rubber strap is perfect for the training and can be used both in ankles and knees as the little ones are getting trained. Seems like a durable product that does what it is meant to do. My kid either loses these pretty frequently or mixes up with others; and writing the name with a permanent marker helps quite a bit.
