Q: Hello. I want to record my voice and then add relaxation music from another source as background music. Does this unit allow me to do this ?

Yes it has overdub mode where you record 2 tracks then play them back while recording the other 2, I'd put the music on first then you can speak while hearing the music in the background. The music can be recorded either via the microphones or using the line in 1/4" jack inputs. Make sure the music output isn't too high as the line in via the jack inputs is very sensitive and can overload if you drive them with too much level. -6db is about right.

I think there's a specific one you can buy but it doesn't come with the remote.

Q: What’s the best external mic for this device for voice recording and ambient sound?

For ambient sound use the internal mics. If you want to record both voice and ambient at the same time plug a voice mic into channel 3 and record the ambient on the internal mics (channel 1 and 2). Select 4 channel recording. That way you can balance the 2 sources in post edit.
