I don't know what number Kindle this is for me. I tend to upgrade as newer Kindles come out. This Kindle is an upgrade from the 8th generation Oasis and that was an upgrade for a Voyage, which was an upgrade from the Paperwhite all the way back to the 1st Gen Kindle.. Having said that, I feel like I have a pretty good understanding for the different models and I can say by far this is the best one I have ever owned. It feels perfect in my hand as far as size. The metal back is a meh for me. It feels expensive and sturdy however I would it rather be rubber or something more grippy. The screen is the absolute best. Back lighting is even and crisp, screen is clear and easy to get immersed in. This Kindle truly makes it easy to forget the device and just enjoy reading. I also like the size. It's larger than I was expecting but perfect after getting used to it. The software is quick and responsive. It's very similar to the 8th generation with some different options and settings. I ordered a simple sleeve type case, because I don't want to add any weight or bulk to this Kindle. My biggest complaint on the 8th generation was the cover added too much bulk but without it there was not enough device for me to hold on to. Overall this is by and large the best Kindle yet. The price was well beyond what I could justify if not for the Kindle trade in program. I got 8 gig wifi w/o special offers for 139.00 ish, that's 25% discount for trading in and 75 for my old Kindle. I hope Amazon keeps this going because I so can justify being on the bleeding edge.

The Kindle Oasis 2017 is a fine e-reader. Unfortunately, I dropped it against a metal dumbbell soon after opening the package, and nicked an edge. It's a small blemish. But the Oasis now visibly and incurably scraped in a way that a plastic Kindle probably would not have been. To cover the scraped edge and to make the gizmo a little easier to hold, I added a few patches of soft Velcro. The bulging side that houses the battery would be okay as form and function if it were a bit easier to grip. Moral: be careful. The Oasis 2017 is fast and the text is crisp. I like the 30%-larger screen. A simply formatted PDF is readable on it. Electronic ink on so small a screen doesn't work well for complicated PDFs. But if the resolution is high enough, as on the Oasis, it can handle material consisting of a single wide column of ordinary text typeset with a reasonably large font. You can use the physical buttons to avoid mistakes too easy to make when swiping the page--for example, when scrolling through the boxes (definition box, Wikipedia box, translation box) that pop up after you click on a word. The physical buttons also permit greater precision when scrolling through many pages of book titles in a library; it's too easy to open a book by mistake when swiping to the next page. Many reviewers say that the price is too high. Heck, I think all prices are "too high"--if by this I mean that I'd rather get high-quality things for a penny or two per thing. Many products have tiers of prices that change with relative quality and demand for the product. If you are willing and able to pay the asking price for a good or service--even though a cheaper but less capable version is available--then the price is not "too high" for you, even if you grumble about the price. From a seller's perspective, a price is not "too high" unless the seller cannot sell its stock at that price. A price can be "too high" for you given your requirements, desires and resources, but it is not "too high" in and of itself, without regard to available alternatives, the quality of the product, the supply of the product, and whether you are willing to buy it.

This E-reader is everything I expected, but there is one small gripe - battery life. The screen is very big and the pixel density makes the words seem extremely crisp, just oike a real book. The anti-glare design works perfectly when reading outside, the buttons for navigating are more than responsive. The screen is very thin, which is why I believe it is neccessary to use a case, which, admittedly makes the whole device much relatively bulky, but that's just the trade-off. The battery only lasts me about 10 hours at most and this is while airplane mode is on abd brightness set to 0. I guess I was just expecting a little more, maybe somewhere around 15 - 20 hours, but it's not a huge issue, because I don't take it on longer trips where I wouldn't be able to charge it whenever I wished. Still, If you're someone who likes a lot of battery power, I suggest the smaller and kore robust Kindle Paperwhite. All jn all, I love thr product. The Oasis is more elegant and has a bigger screen, includes the extremely useful navigational buttons, and makes reading a breeze.

Have had every generation of touch Kindle. This is the best. I have had my second gen Oasis about 2 months or so and hover no complaints. It is very light and easy to hold. I ready likeep the seven inch screen. The page turn buttons are conveniently placed. Battery life lasts about a week or a little less I only have the WiFi on when downloading books and only have the illumination on when I really need it. It conserves more juice than if I had the autobrightness on. But, it does recharge quickly. It is ergonomic and easy to hold. The metal back gives it a solid feel. I would recommend this to friends and family. Good job Amazon. This is not a tablet. It is an eink device. The display is monochrome. The device simulates real paper. You do not use a print book to surf the internet and books are printed in dark type against white paper. If you want a colord display and wish to check your email, you don't want an ereader, you want a tablet with a reader app.

I wasn’t that taken with the shape of the new kindle oasis. It feels a bit weird having the battery down one side. My last kindle was a symmetrical Paperwhite. However, I am reading and reading on my new Oasis, so that has to be the test of a good kindle! I just don’t think about the lighting. It just works. And I LOVE taking it in the bath. What more could a girl want? It is very different from previous kindles, but it didn’t take long to get used to. I have also noticed I read with a smaller font because the print is so crisp and legible. This reduces page turns. I am glad I bought it.

I am on my 5th or 6th Kindle. Got my first one in 2009 and have upgraded each time a new one came out. I read ALOT!! I currently have 3500 plus books and I wanted more storage which is why I upgraded. I can’t imagine holding a real book anymore. I have always been a voracious reader n But was never able to hold onto the books I love as they just take up so much room. Not anymore. I now have all the books I love in one small tablet I can drop in my purse or put in my pocket if necessary. Never have to hunt down older books from favorite authors. They are right there at my finger tips. No more having to keep my hubby awake with the light, or try pointing the ‘clip light’ in the right direction. Love love love it. I buy them for my friends and anyone I can think of. Yeah. They aren’t cheap, but what a lovely thought.... a hook store in my hand. No glare when reading out side. And now waterproof as well. Thank amazon for a great idea!!!

I bought this from Best Buy since they had it in stock and Amazon didn't. I'll cut right to the chase: PROS Sleek and solidly built. It looks very nice (but seems like it would be easily damaged if dropped). Perfectly even screen illumination. Much better than my Paperwhite. Larger screen, less page turns, larger pictures and graphics. Faster page turns than any other Kindle I have seen. Waterproof (nice, but not a huge selling point for me). Fast screen rotation when changing hands. Audible. I haven't tried this yet, but definitely a good feature, even if you can't listen and read at the same time. CONS It's expensive. It's heavy. I'm surprised at this. They should have stuck with plastic to keep the weight down. It's wide. Not suitable to carry in your pocket. I can cram my Paperwhite into my back pocket but not the Oasis. It's slippery. This is my biggest complaint. The metal is smooth and hard to grip. It's also cold. It is not easy or comfortable to hold for a long time. I struggle to find a comfortable grip that also allows me to easily get to the page buttons. Reading in bed is even harder if you need to hold it up vertically because it is very difficult to find a good grip that also allows access to the page buttons. I was constantly hitting them by accident. I would not be comfortable walking with it because I would be worried about losing my grip and dropping it. Because of the glass screen, I think it would break more easily than the plastic Kindles, which can take a beating. So the combination of the weight and being hard to hold really lowered my rating. Adding a skin would probably help, but that's more investment in an already very expensive product and adds to the weight. The auto brightness doesn't seem to work at all for me, I have never seen it adjust even going from a dark to light room. Battery life has not been great. So while there is a lot to like, I am debating returning it due to the difficulty in holding it for long periods of time. At this premium price, it should be more ergonomic. I am tempted to buy the previous Oasis model, which is much lighter and smaller, even though I like the larger screen. Ultimately I think most people will be just fine with a Paperwhite. The weight is similar and it is much easier to hold. I will use it for a few more days and see how it goes and adjust my review accordingly if my opinion changes one way or another. UPDATE - I have spent a couple months with both the gen 1 and the gen 2 Oasis. I ended up buying both thinking I would return one, but never did. As much as I like the gen 2’s larger screen, I find myself reaching for the gen 1 more often, especially if I am going somewhere. It’s just a much better size and form factor. It’s easier to hold and I can put it in a jacket pocket. The battery lasts longer. The gen 2 is just a tad too big and heavy and I only use it when I am reading at home in a sitting position. It’s too slippery to hold for long when reading in bed. The cold metal is more noticeable now that the weather is cold and it’s off putting. So while I appreciate the sleek design and do like the larger screen, the gen 1 wins out for me. It’s just more user friendly and convenient. I will probably keep both for now and sell the gen 2 at some point when I need some extra cash.

I just received my Kindle Oasis which replaces my first Paper White that was recently stolen. I went for the Oasis because of the larger page size and what looked like warmer screen color tone than the Paper White had. It always bugged me how the brighter you turned up the light on the Paper White the colder in color tone the screen became. I even posed the question to owners if I was seeing this correctly in the user photos. Some had no idea what I was talking about, some said there was no difference and one confirmed what I was seeing in the photos. Well I can report that the screen color tone is in fact warmer than the Paper White and doesn't get colder the brighter you make the screen. I think this will ease eye strain and reduce sleep problems. It's not as warm as the beige setting on a Kindle Fire or Kindle App on a tablet but more like what actual paper in a book looks like. I love it! Now this might sound a little harsh to some, but what's with all the whining about the weight and feel of this thing? It's an electronic reader so it's not ever going to feel like a book. And has anyone who think's it's too heavy held an actual book lately? Stephen King's 'The Stand' weighs three pounds! Other hard cover books weigh at least a pound or more and I can't adjust the font type and size or look up a word I don't know the definition of while reading. Even after I place this in the case I ordered for it, it will still come in under a pound and be much easier to hold than an actual 500 page book and I can read it in any light. Get some perspective people! LOL
