EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM

This lens is absolutely stunning on a crop-sensor body (I use it with a Canon 60D). I've been using a canon EFS 15-85, which is a superb lens, for quite some time and was very pleased with its results, but I'd had a hankering for the EF 24-105L which I finally gave into once Canon announced their Winter cash-back promotion (£80 back) and I'm so glad I did! In fact I wish I'd bought this lens ages ago, even for full price! The lens is absolutely tack-sharp, even wide open, at short to medium focal lengths, and is very-good/excellent across the board at any focal-length/aperture. Contrast is nothing short of staggering too. The optical quality of this zoom lens leaves me speechless, it's on a par with some of Canon's best primes to my eye, whilst also offering the flexibility of zooming. Some people say that the 24mm wide-end isn't wide enough for a crop sensor body, but I find that outside it's adequately wide for most shots, and the long-end 105mm is a reasonably long medium telephoto equivalent, making this an ideal walk-around lens for just about any situation. Indoors you may want something a little wider, but it's still great for portraits and anything except group shots. The constant maximum aperture is a real boon if you're operating the camera in Manual mode, or you're "spot-metering" by zooming-in to obtain a meter reading (especially useful when using flash), and the ability of the lens to yield such good results even wide-open opens up realms of creativity which aren't available when using less proficient optics and using f/8 to give a reasonably sharp image. The Image Stabilisation is one of Canon's 3-stop equivalent systems, not the 4-stop variety seen on the newest long lenses, but still very proficient and useful. The autofocus uses Canon's ring-type ultrasonic motor which is lightning-fast and ceaselessly accurate. This may be a 10 year old lens design but it find it a first-class piece of glass and can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who's after top-spec optics at a reasonable price!

I use a Canon EOS 40D and I bought this lens as I anticipate that I will probably use it for around 80% of the photographs I take. The main attraction, to me, is probably carrying less gear but also reducing lens changes and the resulting possibility of dust spots. There's no two ways about it this lens is expensive but the saying "you get what you pay for" seems to ring very true with lenses. Believe me I didn't spend nearly £[] on a lens lightly but I've got two other L series lenses and I consider them to be worth the extra outlay. I think most people who look at this lens also consider the even more expensive Canon 24-70 2.8. I have an independent marque 24-70 2.8 that is much softer than I would like and very heavy. I considered selling it and buying the Canon 24-70 but eventually decided to keep it as a back up and buy this lens. Even if I'd sold it and added the money to the cost of this lens it may not have made the cost of the Canon 24-70 2.8. I tell you this because to an extent the decision of which lens to buy was probably simpler for me than it will be for many. If I hadn't had the independent lens I would have been sorely tempted by the faster 2.8 aperture. Now I have this lens I find it to be very sharp, flexible and well made and to an extent the IS makes up for the slower aperture. It really does seem to be an all purpose lens and I highly recommend it.

As my first L series lens, I spent weeks debating between this and the 70-200mm F4L Canon EF 70-200mm F/4.0 L IS USM Lens which I had borrowed for a weekend previously and enjoyed using. The final factor for me was that this is a true walkaround lens from Macro shots to portrait and is fairly compact in its size when compared to the 70-200. I use mine on a 500D, so with the crop factor I have enough flexibility on the focal length to very rarely reach for another lens. The build quality is fantastic, has a great weight to it but not too much to become a chore. The USM is super fast and silent, and the fact that there is a full time manual focus ring without switching the AF off is great, a function i wasn't used too on my 'kit' lenses. Before venturing out for the first time I invested in a HOYA pro 1 filter to protect the glass Hoya 77mm Pro1 Digital Protector Filter . The images that result from this lens are great quality, the difference between this and a kit lens is plain to see. Don't hesitate any longer, buy now!

Excellent lens. The IS works beautifully and the convenience of having such a versatile focal range makes this lens one of the best all purpose walk around lenses. Beautiful vibrant colors, sharp, focuses quickly and accurately and it's weight makes it easy to carry around. Such a pity it's not f/2.8 - I do loads of night stuff and while it will easily do the job for steady objects on the street or in gigs and moderately lit bars / rooms, it struggles with moving objects (people) using ISO 1600. Personally I find it very hard to take decent photos of people using f/4 and anything less than 1/25 (ISO 1600). All in all, a well balanced lens, mostly for your day needs.

I bought this lens to replace my Canon 28-135 mm which was starting to fell a bit sloppy and had a hairline crack in the case. When I did some direct comparison tests I found the 28-135 was actually fractionally sharper at the centre but this reduced towards the edges, while the 24-105 held it's sharpness all the way. Used with my Canon 40D, this is a useful size for a general purpose lens. I'm not really worried about wide angle use, which is better achieved with a specialist lens anyway. The 24-105 retains detail in the highlight and shadow areas when it is lost with the cheaper lens. But whether that is worth over twice the price will depend on the individual user's requirements. I found the Canon 28-135 IS to be an excellent budget lens, but the 24-105 is certainly a much stronger construction. Focus is quite close for macro work particularly with an extension tube. The lens will not accept a Canon Tele Converter and I haven't tried it with a third party converter. So if you can afford the price, and this lens matches your size requirements, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Replaced my 28-135 IS lens when I had my Canon 40d with the upgraded lens yielding excellent sharp results; good solid build and effective IS. This is my main lens on my Canon Setup (Nikon is main system) and used it to no problems (only problem was the nut behind the camera) yielding sharp excellent images even wide open at F/4 with beautiful brokeh as well. 2 Advantages is that the Aperature is standard throughout the zoom range and also took Nikon several years to shape up and come up with its own version which is slightly poorer and more expensive than canon version. Also don't see the need of selling lens I brought for good price of around £600 for the more recent 24-70 F4 L IS which may be sharper and have less distortion abbrevations,etc but is expensive at over £1400.00.

I have a few Sigma f2.8 lenses but was looking for the next level up with the Canon "L" series. I have tried out the Canon 50mm F1.2L and loved it, so I had high hopes for this lens. The sharpen just is not there. It is not different from my Sigma 24-70mm F2.8, which means I feel like I have thrown cash down the drain. Having said that, it is not a bad product, it just is not sharp enough.

Sharp. 105mm lovely smooth bokeh. IS lets me take sharp photos at 1/30s. Not too heavy (but not light). Superb colour and contrast. Not much vignetting at 24mm F4 as i expected, which is a great bonus! (on an original 1ds / full-frame) I am yet to try this lens on my 50D but i am confident it wont vignette (crop sensor). 105mm is long enough for portraits in the studio. 24/35mm is quite close on the zoom ring. With cameras getting better ISO, F4 is more than enough for my uses.(I shoot at F8 most of the time and if i ever need a shallow depth of field i slap on the 'nifty-fifty' / 50mm 1.8) For £300 less than the 24-70mm 2.8, this lens is easily within the same league in terms of image quality, if not better. I have used both lenses and so i am speaking from experience. This lens is brilliant. That is all. Oh and i hear it is great for video so that's another point for investment.

Seit gut einem Jahr nutze Ich jetzt schon das 24-105 , zusammen mit meiner Canon Eos 70D liefert dieses Objektiv eine Top Abbildungsleistung. Bei einer Blende 4 ist das Objektiv nicht extrem scharf aber die die Schärfe ist schon gut und ab 5,6 ist die Schärfe hervorragend. weiteres Abblenden verbessert die Bildqualität kaum noch weiter. Wenn man diese Objektiv an einer APSC Kamera wie meiner 70D verwendet verwendet aus 24-105 mm durch den Cropfaktor von 1,6 38mm-168mm auf Kleinbild umgerecht. die 170mm im Tele sind oft sehr praktisch da ich so kaum noch ein Teleobjektiv benötige und so die Ausrüstung um einiges leicht wird. Ich habe das Objektiv knapp ein Jahr an einer Canon 70d genutzt und die niedrigeren Brennweiten unter 38mm kaum vermisst. Mittlerweile bin ich in Besitz einer Vollformatkamera die Canon 5D Mark 3 und verwende es immer noch mit grösster Begeisterung als Standartobjektiv es liefert auch an einer sehr hochauflösenden Kamera wie der 5D3 sehr gute und Scharfe Ergebnisse. Bokeh (Hintergrundunschärfe) durch die 8 Blendenlamellen ist die Unschärfe sehr schön kreisrund und sehr weich. Verarbeitung : Diese Objektive wie alle Canon L Objektive ist Spritzwasser und Staubgeschützt. die Verabeitung ist sehr hochwertig Der Bajonettanschluss ist komplett aus Metall und sonst ist das Objektivs aus hochwertigem Kunstoff Das Objektiv ist mit 670 g auch recht schwer mit einer dreistelligen Kamera wie z.b. mit einer 750D wird es schon recht frontlastig. bei einer 70d oder höher ist das Objektiv nicht mehr zu frontlastig. Der Fokusring und Zoomring läuft sehr flüssig was sich sehr gut fürs Filmen eignet. USM Autofokus: Der Autofokus des Objektives fokussiert extrem schnell und ziemlich leise es gibt kaum Ausschuss. IS :Der Bildstabilistator gleicht 3 Blendenstufen aus , und kann das Bild auch recht selbst beim Handheld filmen ruhig halten. Der Bildstabilisator erzeugt jedoch deutlich hörbare geräusche die vom internen Mikrofon der Kamera aufgenommen werden. Fazit: Für mich ist das 24-105 F4 L mein aller liebstes Immerdrauf Objektiv besonders auf Reisen ist es einfach unglaublich Flexibel und bietet eine vorzüglich Abbildungleistung. ich kann das Objektiv sehr empfehlen es ist seinen hohen Preis meiner Meinung nach wert. Pro: Sehr Flexibler Zoombereich und der sich für fast alle Motive eignet besonders auf Reisen ist es mehr als Praktisch da man nicht zu viele Objektive benötigt , Die sehr gute Abbildungsleistung hat mich sehr überzeugt. Verarbeitung: Das Objektiv ist recht schwer und ist sehr gut Verarbeitet. Die mitgeliferte Gegenlichtblende verhindert Streulicht sehr gut , der ebenfalls mitgelieferterte Objektivbeutel schützt das Objektiv vor Stössen und Kratzern. Contra : Hoher Preis (der aber für die gebotene Leistung aber voll inordung geht. Blende 4,0

Excellent Lens. Little on the heavier side. Using it with Canon EOS 600d. First few clicks were not extraordinary but the quality kept on improving on usage. Of course, this is nothing to do with the lens.

Cet objectif est vraiment très polyvalent sur un gros capteur; la qualité d'image est excellente, le piqué très bon. Les portraits à 105mm f/4 ressortent mieux qu'à 70mm f/2.8 grace à une profondeur de champs plus faible et une compression plus élevée (grâce à la focale plus longue). Très bien construit, assez léger, cet objectif est vraiment très polyvalent de par son range, mais aussi de par sa stabilisation efficace...La finition et la constructions sont celles d'un L, no comment. Stabilisation et autofocus très silencieux. Le diamètre 77mm pour les filtres est bien pratique et est commun à plusieurs objectifs Canon haut de gamme. Dans les cotés négatifs, la distorsion à 24mm est assez prononcée et peut être gênant en architecture. Ca se corrige, mais la correction logicelle fait perdre du détail. Préférez le 24-70L pour cela, ou un 24mm fixe. Le vignettage est aussi présent à f/4, mais se corrige très bien sans perte visible. Ayant possédé bien d'autres objectifs dont le 17-55 EF-S f/2.8 IS USM, je trouve que ce dernier est mieux adapté aux petits capteurs, et le préferrais pour sa plus grande polyvalence sur aps-c. Le 24-105 perd sa grande polyvalence sur petit capteur, l'ouverture étant un peu juste et la plage de focale un peu longue pour l'architecture, le paysage au grand angle, et l'intérieur. Ce 17-55 est un objectif génial, qui combine les avantages du 24-70 et du 24-105, avec un range adapté pour les petits capteurs. [...]

I received the lens today (5-11-2026) and I was surprised it was in such good condition. I works as stated and I did not notice any deficiencies. I had previously bought a lens a few months ago from a different company and had to send it back because it was defective so I was apprehensive about this order being error free. I took a chance and I am not regretting it one bit. My thanks to the seller and the effort to sell good and defect free merchandise. I would definitely buy from them again. I also liked the short delivery time as well.
