Works as expected
Not sure of the technical aspects of this item and others are better educated to comment on speed, performance etc. For me it is a functioning USB storage device that I keep plugged into my TV to record programs from freeview and it works fine for that. No need to format it, I just plugged it in and it works. It's a USB 3 series and is cheaper than some USB 2 drives of the same capacity.Kingston is a name I recognise and although I'm sure some people get really mad if a drive stops working I accept that any technology is capable of malfunctioning, that doesn't make it any easier to accept a faulty item but any make, model or manufacturer is subject to that problem. My use of the drive is what I expect and it does the job I want it to do for a very reasonable price.

More than happy with this.
Well I had 14.5GB of large video files of varying video formats ranging from 716 MB to 2,198 MB to put onto a Kingston DataTraveler 101 Gen 2 16GB USB Drive thumb (flash) drive for a friend. I decided the best way to do this was to simply grab the whole lot and do the transfer while I went out to post a parcel.I came home some 15 minutes later and my computer was telling me there were still some 45 minutes left!!I lost my temper, stopped the transfer and came onto Amazon to spend as little money as possible on a USB 3.0 Thumb (flash) drive, as a Christmas gift for him.I found this Kingston, the cheapest option and ordered two of them.OK, here we go - the same computer, the same folder, the same files, and the same all-in-one-go transfer. The only difference - the new Kingston thumb (flash) drive was put into the front USB 3.0 slot (connected to a USB 3.0 Header and not directly out the back of the mobo). With nothing else going on regarding software usage as was the case when I went shopping, all the files transferred in a grand total of........wait for it!11 minutes and 06 seconds......a difference of 48 minutes and 45 seconds. The write speed averaged 174.2Mb/s (megabits per second) or if you prefer 21.77MB/s (megabytes per second)Taking the files back off and putting them back onto the same HDD took 4 minutes and 18 seconds:That is makes average read speed of 56.2MB/s (megabytes per second) or 449.6 Mb/s (megabits per second)It beats hands down the original drive I was trying to use.All in all if it is a great speed increase over a USB 2 drive you are after then it is a very good drive for the money.- Superb, nuf' said!

Basic - but brilliant.
Needed a new USB stick for work project and this has been perfect. The storage is very generous, an a really good price. It's easy to use - just plug and start moving files to where they need to be.The design is very handy - the loop is sturdy and can clip onto my lanyard for work. Also means it's less likely to get left behind as I can't leave without my lanyard...It's sturdy, it works, it's a good price. This isn't the fanciest USB stick around, but it works.

Good price for adequate performance
Good price and works OK. Not the fastest though: Crystal Mark R/W was 116.2/20.9 on USB3 socket and 33.6/13.0 on USB2 socket. This compares with the Kingston 64Gb USB2 measurements of 17.6/5.7, i.e. the USB3 drive is double the speed of its USB2 equivalent on a USB2 socket. It is about 5mm longer than the old drive. I also use the more expensive metal Integral USB3 drives at £22, although they are much smaller and can get lost. Their USB3 speed is 134.9/20.8, but 50% extra is a lot to pay for 16% increase in speed.

Depends what use for! Very good - still going after many years.
By modern standards fairly slow, but quick enough, depending on use. I use these 16GB datasticks for Windows Media Creation Tools [MCTs] to repair and load OSs. I also use them to shunt the odd file or folders to other PCs, and previously Macs too. I bought these years ago, and still good. I have about 9 of these in service, going back to roughly end of 2017 / start of 2018. Too slow for very large files, on a regular basis, though I have used one datastick for digital movies.

Painfully slow USB3 speed
Good as a quick USB2 drive but very slow USB3 writes - look elsewhere if you want a fast USB3 drive.Good points - cheap, cap snaps on/off nice and firmly, good sized ring to attach to lanyards, good USB2 speeds:Write - 13 to 18 MB/s depending on testing program usedRead - 31 to 33 MB/sFor comparison, the slightly cheaper Toshiba Transmemory USB2 drive is limited to a max of 5 write and 18 read so the Kingston does make a lot of sense - as a USB2 drive.Bad points - very slow USB3 speed:Write - 20 to 26 MB/s depending on testing program used - only fractionally quicker than the USB2 figures...Read - 122 to 130 MB/sThese tests were run on a decent PC (core i5, SSD etc) with up to date USB3 drivers - sites with speed test results from other people show that a slow USB3 write speed of 15 to 25 is sadly very common.I'll keep it as I mainly wanted it for USB2 computers anyway but this is not a true USB3 drive - it is effectively a mix of USB2 write and USB3 read...

Works well
I have used this most days for years as I often need to transfer images between computers and peripherals. It continues to work perfectly, obviosly it's properly made.
