How do I know which drill bits are for what

Sandra, the ones on the left, the silver coloured ones with a ittle "wing" at the tip are for masonry/concrete, although drilling this can be problematic depending on the hardness on the drilled material, the ones in the middle (with a centre point and outer cutting edges) is for wood only, never use them for anything else. The right hand side with no fussy edges can be used for wood but is mainly used for metal. Metal will blunt them fairly quickly but not as quickly as using them as masonry substitutes, marginally possible but not recommended. Drilling metal should be done at lower speeds. In all functions, regularly allow the bit to clear the drilled material by withdrawing the drill bit partially from the hole.

Do the drill bits in this set have hex shanks/hex fittings?

Hi the screwdriver bits are hex with an adapter that goes into the chuck but the actual drill bits are round smooth standard drill bits . I hope this helps

is there a piece in this set that drills through tiles/ glass

NO! There are not any bits in this set suitable for drilling through tiles or glass, including the HSS bits, these are only suitable for steel/metal as the name suggests. Always get the proper tool or accessory for the job and then you won't bodge it.
