Does this card size work for my selphy cp 1200 with out to buy a another tray

you have to buy tray to fit the card size, it won't work on normal photo size tray .

When you tear off the excess paper does it leave a nice clean edge?

I use these papers a lot, you actually do not so much tear them off as snap them off. When it finishes printing you can actually leave the extra bits on but I bend them back and then forward and they snap off, the edge is very straight but has corners removed, they look good. The Selphy print quality is far better than on my old polaroid pogo printer. Oh and you will need a Glue Stick if you are going to put them anywhere permanently as these are not self adhesive.

can the photo printed from it be used as passport photos?

If you're willing to cut the photo to the correct dimensions and follow the guidelines issued for passport photos, then yes the quality is excellent. However it is an expensive way to create a passport photo. A modern photo booth will be cheaper and guide you through the process

I have bought these to use with the selphy CP1300 - will I need a different paper tray?

I found it worked fine with the original tray.
